The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) Approves Number of Medical Students to be Admitted into Benue State University from Fifty (50) to Seventy-five (75).
The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has approved an increase in the number of Medical Students to be admitted into Benue State University from fifty (50) to Seventy-five (75).
The cheering news was conveyed to the University in a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, dated 5th February, 2018.
The letter, signed by the Ag. Registrar of the Council, Dr. T.A.B Sanusi, stated in part that,
“Following report of the verification Team to the College of Health Sciences, Benue State University, Makurdi on Tuesday, 19th December, 2017, I am pleased to convey approval for the increase of the Medical Students’ admission quota from fifty (50) to seventy-five (75)”.
While urging the University “to adhere strictly within the limits of the new approved quota for indexing purposes”.
The Council urged the University Management and Governing Council to ensure that established standards are maintained in the study of Medicine in the University.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Msugh Moses Kembe, said the approval of the increased admission quota was an endorsement of the policy thrusts of the entire Management of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the Government of Benue State and the Visitor of the University, Governor Samuel Ortom, noting that the feat was made possible as a result of sustained support of the Visitor, the Governing Council and hard working and dedicated staff of the University.
