National ICT Olympiad Competition Registration Guidelines - 2018  | Junior & Senior

The National ICT Olympiad Competition for Junior and Senior Secondary Schools In Nigeria Registration Guidelines, First Qualification Stage, Second Olympiad BootCamp Stage, Third and Final Stage, Prizes and Participating States for 2017/2018 Edition.

The Xtord Amaren Nigeria Limited has designed a National ICT competition called National ICT Olympiad which is opened to junior and senior secondary school students in Nigeria.

The Olympiad is an annual event that has been included in the education calendar

The Creation of the competition was in a bid to discover Nigeria’s best young computer scientist, develop healthy competitive skills as well as improve youth’s self esteem together with creating pride in academic achievement.

Just like the National Mathematical Center Olympiad Competition the National ICT Olympiad is opened to all secondary school students in Nigeria.

Each state Olympiad champion will compete against his/her counterparts from the remaining 36 states for the National ICT Olympiad title.

The National ICT Olympiad Competition Process

 The National ICT Olympiad Competition involves the following process:

1ST STAGE (QUALIFICATION STAGE)

  • The registered students  are to sit for the 1st stage aptitude test using any internet enabled device (Phones, Tablets, Laptops and Desktop PCs).
  • The exam is an online computer based test . The students will be eligible to sit for this test if they are registered and have their username and password
  • Students who score above the cut – off mark will proceed to the next stage
  • The Examination will hold simultaneously on the same day across the country

2ND STAGE (OLYMPIAD BOOTCAMP)

  • The Students who scored above the cut off mark would be eligible to participate in the second stage.
  • The second stage which was a week long boot camp at the Olympiad academy. An Olympiad academy will be located in a city in each participating states.
  • The training at the boot camp will be simultaneously done across all the centres
  • The theme for this edition of the Olympiad will be centred around development of applications to solve societal problems
  • As part of the Olympiad curriculum, students will be mentored by qualified Human resources persons in the areas of business management and soft skills that are required to transform their ideas to sustainable businesses
  • The participating students would sit for another test after the boot camp; the test would serve as a qualification test for the state finals
  • Certificate of training will be presented to the participating students.

3RD STAGE (STATE FINALS)

  • The qualifying students from the boot camp stage will be eligible for this stage
  • The state finals would be a project showcase event; where the students will be required to present their finished projects to the audience and judges
  • The best 10 students at the state finals will showcase their skills in several areas of ICT. There will be an Olympiad champion and 2 runners up.
  • Each participating state will have a state ICT Olympiad champion
  • The respective state champions will go into the ICT Olympiad mentorship programme

The National ICT Olympiad Competition Winners Prizes

Winners of the National ICT Olympiad Competition are entitled to many great fabulous and fantastic prizes but the major prizes are listed below:

A. STATE FINALS PRIZES

1st Prizes:

Gold medal,
N100,000 Prize Money,
N100,000 Training Scholarship and a 1 laptop computer

2nd Prize

Silver Medal,
N70,000 Prize Money,
N70,000 Training Scholarship and a laptop computer

3rd Prize:

Bronze medal, and N50, 000 prize money

B. NATIONAL FINALS PRIZES

1st Prize :

Gold Medal, 
N500,000 Prize Money,
N200,000 Training Scholarship and a 1 laptop computer

2nd Prize :

Silver Medal, 
N250,000 Prize Money,
N150,000 Training Scholarship and a laptop computer

3rd Prize:

Bronze medal, and N150, 000 prize money
NOTE: Each participant also receives a certificate of participation. 
The school will get an e-learning resource centres, ICT laboratories and computer teacher will also receive consolation prizes

The National ICT Olympiad Mentorship Programme

The Olympiad mentorship programme has been designed to give the participating students the following;
  • ICT training
  • Presentation skills
  • Business development training,
  • Book keeping and business plan development
The mentorship programme would be in a camp format where participating students would stay and be tutored on site

The students would be mentored by renowned business executives and qualified career coaches

Each stage of the Olympiad will be recorded and shown on the listed media platforms in a 15minutes Olympiad programme

Registration: 

This is the first step where students visit the website https://www.nationalictolympiad.com/registration/ to fill the registration form. Register to access study materials and past questions on the website and start preparing for the Olympiad.
Registration will also be done via SMS in the 2017 edition.

School Awareness Visits: 

The school awareness visit is a way of taking the Olympiad message to schools. The form of the activation is as follows;
  • The schools to be visited will be 4 schools per state
  • The schools will be a mixture of public and private secondary schools
  • The schools are selected randomly
  • The students will be introduced to the Olympiad and will be given a career talk on ICT and the benefits of it
