Lagos State University (LASU) Senate Appoints Prof. Adenike Omotunde Boyo as the New Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC) (Academics) of the University for Two (2) Years.
The Senate of Lagos State University has elected Prof. Adenike Omotunde Boyo as the Deputy Vice Chancellor ( Administration) of the University.
The election, which took place today, Tuesday, 12th October, 2021 saw Prof. Boyo defeat the other candidate for the position, Prof. Yinus Dauda Adeleke by 118 to 04 votes to emerge winner.
Prof. Boyo is a Professor of Physics and Dean, Faculty of Science of the University, and succeeds Prof. Oyedamola Oke whose tenure ended on 4th October, 2021 after serving for 2 consecutive terms of 4 years.
The election of the new DVC (Administration) is to be ratified by the Governing Council of the University.
PROFILE OF PROFESSOR (MRS) ADENIKE OMOTUNDE BOYO
Prof. (Mrs.) Adenike Omotunde Boyo (née ROSANWO) was born on the 11th December ,1963 at Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria. She started her early education at the Reagan Memorial Baptist Girls Primary School, Onike, Yaba, Lagos State, and proceeded to Reagan Memorial Baptist Girls Secondary School, Onike, Yaba, Lagos State Nigeria, where she obtained her West African School Certificate in 1980. She obtained her G.C.E. ‘A’L from the Lagos State College of Science and Technology in 1983.Prof. (Mrs.) Adenike Omotunde Boyo had her Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics specializing in Geophysics from University of Lagos, Nigeria in 1986. She did her National Youth Service Corps at the Nigeria Navy Secondary School, In Lagos, Lagos State from 1986 to1987 and had her Master of Science in Applied Physics (Solar Energy) from University of Lagos, Nigeria in 1988.
She subsequently attended the Department of Physics, University of Ilorin, Kwara State Nigeria, where she bagged her Ph. D in Physics in 2004.
She joined Lagos State University as an Assistant Lecturer in 1990 and became an Associate Professor in 2008 and a Professor of Physics in 2011.
She is the first pronounced Professor of Physics and first female Physicist in the Department of Physics Lagos State university. She was seconded to Lagos State Ministry of Science and Technology as a Director of Science and Technology in Policy, Progammes and Promotion from 2005 to 2007 although the two years was spent as Sabbatical and Leave of Absence. She was a Consultant to the same Ministry from 2007 to 2010.
Prof (Mrs.) Adenike Boyo returned to the University and was appointed the Head of Department of Physics from 2007 to 2009. She was at the same time the Deputy Director of Lagos State University Foundation Programme from 2008 to 2012. In 2014, she did her Sabbatical Leave at the Department of Physics, Covenant University Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria. On resumption she was appointed Assistant Director, Endowments and Grants Unit of the Lagos State University Directorate of Advancement (LASUDA) from 2016 till 2019.
Prof.(Mrs.) Adenike Boyo has authored and co-authored over 70 scientific papers, including more than 50 Journal articles.
She is a member of many local and international bodies, including: African Network for Solar Energy (ANSOLE), International Solar Energy Society, Solar Energy Society of Nigeria, Nigeria Institute of Physics, Member Third World Organization for Women in Science, member Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) and currently, the President of the LASU Chapter of OWSD, Materials Science and Technology Society of Nigeria, Member, Nigeria Institute of Physics, and Third World Organization for Women in Science. She recently bagged a Fellowship Award from the Nigeria.
She is currently the Ex Officio of Material Science and Technology of Society of Nigeria (MSN), former National Vice President (Science) of Material Science and Technology of Society of Nigeria (MSN) and Vice Chairman for MSN Lagos State Chapter. She has served as financial Secretary, Treasurer, Society Advisory Board and Strategic Planning Committee member in the society. She was the Local Organizing Chairman of Material Science and Technology conference (NIMANCON 2014) held at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria in 2014. She is a fellow of Material Science and Technology Society of Nigeria (MSN) and Fellow of African Scientific Institute. Also, she has been nominated severally to participate as a resource person in the Nigeria University accreditation exercise.
She has won several awards and grants among them are TETFUND National Research grants in 2019 and recently, won award of a research grant in Gendered Design in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) in Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). The program Gendered Design in STEAM (GDS) is funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC, Canada) and managed by Carleton University (Canada).
Prof. (Mrs.) Adenike Boyo has attended conferences, workshops, exhibitions, technical meetings in many countries which include USA, UK, Canada, Singapore, Turkey, Austria, Ethiopia and South Africa. Prof. (Mrs.) Adenike Boyo is married. She was ordained as Assistant pastor in The Redeemed Christian Church of God in 2011 and currently the Parish Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (Amen Assembly Parish) in Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria from 2013 to Date. She was a Member of the Joint Committee of Council and Senate for the appointment of the 9th Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University
Presently, she is the Dean, Faculty of Science, Lagos state University, Ojo, Badagry , Nigeria.
