Dr. Samuel Akintunde Appointed 18th Substantive Provost in ACEONDO

Governing Council of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo Appoints Dr. Samuel Akintunde as 18th Substantive Provost of the College.

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari on Friday 16th November, 2018 approved the appointment of Dr. Samuel Akinrinola Akintunde as the 18th substantive administrator of the College.

According to a statement signed on Friday by the Permanent Secretary (General Services Office), Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Olusegun A. Adekunle, Akintunde was appointed as Provost of the College for an initial term of four years with effect from November 6, 2018.

Dr. Akintunde until his appointment was the Acting Provost of the College following the completion of the tenure of the former Provost, Professor Olukoya Ogen.

Dr. Akintunde was the second alumnus to head the institution and the first to be appointed as the Deputy Provost in the 54 years of existence of the College.

Dr. Akintunde who hails from Ilora in Afijio Local Government area of Oyo State was born in the 60s.

He had his elementary education in Oyo and Ekiti States. He is a graduate of Geography Education in the then School of Applied Arts and Science, Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo and has a Master of Education (M.Ed.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Social Studies from the foremost University in Nigeria, University of Ibadan, Ibadan.

He has been a lecturer in the Department of Social Studies in the last two decades and risen to the rank of Chief Lecturer.

A seasoned academic, he has presented 32 papers at various conferences in Nigeria and abroad. He has two published conference proceedings and 60 other publications comprising chapters in books, articles in national and international journals and attended nine workshops.

He had been a facilitator to: Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti States in Universal Basic Boards in the training of primary and secondary school teachers; Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) capacity workshop for Community Development Committees and the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) in training programmes.

Prior to his appointment in the College, Akintunde served as Geography teacher, Government Secondary School, Malete, Ilorin, Kwara State during the national service from 1991 to 1992. He later taught Geography and Social Studies at Yinbol College, Orogun, Ibadan, Oyo State from 1995 to 1996.

Employed in the College as Lecturer III in 1997, he has served in various capacities such as the Head, Department of Social Studies between 2004 and 2007; Chairman of the School of Arts and Social Sciences Seminar Committee from 2006 to2007; Member, College Sport Committee from 2004 to 2007 and secretary of the Committee in 2006.

Dr. Akintunde served as Secretary of Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo from 2007 to 2009, Ex-Officio, 2009 to 2013 and Chairman of the Union from 2013 to 2016.

Dr. Akintunde is happily married with promising children.
