LASU Flies High in IHL Moot Competition 2018 National Rounds

Lagos State University, LASU Comes Second in the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Moot Court Competition 2018 National Rounds Organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The Faculty of Law, Lagos State University, has earned kudos for the University at the just concluded International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Moot Court Competition National Rounds organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The competition held at University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom from 9th - 13th October, 2018 with Team LASU emerging 2nd Runner-Up after an intensive exercise.

This year's competition had 10 Nigerian Universities including University of Uyo, University of Jos, University of Maiduguri, University of Benin, Benson Idahosa University, Bayero University, Baze University, Abia State University, Rivers State University and of course Lagos State University compete for the grand prize. 

After the 6 preliminary rounds, the University of Maiduguri, Lagos State University, University of Uyo and Benson Idahosa University made it to the Semi finals.

After the very intense show of advocacy prowess, intelligence, brilliance and impressive understanding of the laws relevant to the subject matter, Lagos State University finished 2nd Runner-up, of the 10 Universities, just behind University of Maiduguri that came 1st, and University of Uyo who emerged as 2nd.

The LASU team was represented by Olaitan John Ojelabi, Adebimpe O. Mosanya and Timilehin Joshua Ojo with their team Coach, Dr. R. O. Olaoluwa.

The International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition is focused on improving the discourse on Humanitarian concerns especially with respect to engagement in war and the protection of civilians in such times. It also aims to improve the understanding of protections available to civilians through this periods. Humanitarian issues remain of serious concerns to the world due to incessant violation of same as visible in different parts of the world where unrest exist, Nigeria not excluded.
