Guidelines & Deadline for Senior Secondary Schools (SS 1 - SS 3) in
Nigeria for 2022 [12th Edition].
UBA Foundation, the corporate
social responsibility arm of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc,
announces the commencement of the 2022 edition of the National Essay
Competition for senior secondary school students in Nigeria.The Competition provides a competitive platform to develop tho intellectual and writing abilities of senior secondary school students in Nigeria.
Winners get educational grants to study in any African University of their choice.
The competition which is a follow up on the Foundation’s Read Africa Initiative, provides a competitive platform to develop the intellectual and writing abilities of senior secondary school students in Nigeria.
Winners get educational grants to study in any African University of their choice. The competition has been held annually since 2011 with students challenged to write on different engaging topics to test their writing and cognitive skills.
This year’s edition has been modified to ensure ease of access and increased participation of senior secondary school students from the comfort of their homes through the introduction of a digital submission portal.
ABOUT AWARD
Now in its 11th year, the National Essay Competition, targeted at senior secondary students in Nigeria is organized annually, as part of UBA Foundation’s education initiative which is aimed atpromoting the reading culture and encouraging healthy and intellectual competition amongst secondary school students in Nigeria and across Africa.
ESSAY TOPIC:
"ASUU Strikes have often cost Nigerian students time. Advise the Nigerian Government on How they can Reach an Agreement with ASUU to Improve Tertiary Education in the Country."
SELECTION CRITERIA & ELIGIBILITY:
PRIZES
- First Prize: N5 million educational grant to any African University of the winner’s choice;
- Second Prize: N3 million in educational grants to any African University of choice;
- Third Prize: N2.5 million in educational grants to any African University of choice.
APPLICATION GUIDELINES
- Applicants must attach photocopies of their original birth certificates or photocopies of intentional passport data page.
- Applicants must be senior secondary school students living in Nigeria.
- Applicants should send in handwritten essay entries Of not more than 750 words on the competition topic.
- Applicants must submit their complete contact information (school name and address residential address, phone number and email address).
- The educational grant is only applicable to students who intend to study in an African university.
- The decision of the judges is final LATE ENTRIES will not be accepted
SELECTION PROCEDURES
Entries received for the competition will be reviewed by a distinguished panel of judges made up of professors from reputable Nigerian Universities, who will then shortlist 12 essays for further assessement. Following this, a second round of competition will involve the 12 finalists who will write a second supervised essay from which three best essays will be selected as the overall winners from the 12 finalists emerged from the first round of the competition.HOW TO APPLY
