Lagos State Schools New Resumption Date 2019/2020 [UPDATED]

COVID-19: Lagos State Public / Private Pre-Primary, Primary and Secondary Schools First [1st], Second (2nd) and Third (3rd) Term Resumption Date for 2019/2020 Academic Session [UPDATED].

LATEST UPDATE: Lagos State Schools Resumption Date for Pri. 6, JSS 3 & SS 3 Slated for August 3rd, 2020 (Public and Private Schools).

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the resumption of both public and private schools beginning from August 3, 2020, after over three months of lockdown due to outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. Sanwo-Olu announced this while giving an update on the COVID-19 situation report in the stare, held at Lagos House, Marina, Lagos. 

According to the Sanwo-Olu, Senior Secondary 3 and Technical 3 are to resume August. 3 while Junior Secondary 3 will wait for assessment for one week.

The above applies to only day schools both public and private. Boarding schools remain shut *Other schools remain closed and continue online learning

The Lagos State Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), has condemned the action of Private Primary and Secondary School owners inviting students to school, despite the government’s directives to close schools.

Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, warned owners and administrators of such schools to desist from reopening under whatever guise, noting that any school caught flouting the directive of the Federal and State governments on closure will be heavily sanctioned.

To ensure compliance the Office Monitoring and Investigation team will embark on compliance monitoring exercises across the State to ensure schools adhere strictly to the safety directives issued by the government to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The Director-General affirmed that the safety of all children, teachers and the general public is a priority, saying that the government has observed the high compliance of schools except for few that indulge in the illegal opening without concern for the health and safety of their pupils.

While imploring such schools to stop the trend that could jeopardise the health and future of innocent children, Seriki-Ayeni said the general public will be notified when it is right and safe for students to return to school.

LAGOS STATE WORKING ON SUITABLE RESUMPTION DATE FOR SCHOOLS, PLANS TO RECRUIT 2,000 PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOLS TEACHERS.
Lagos State government says it is working with the Federal Ministry of Education and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to arrive at a suitable time for the resumption of schools.

And, in what is expected to strengthen education quality in post-COVID-19, the state government is also recruiting at least 2,000 teachers ahead of school reopening.

The Lagos State Government has directed that all Public and Private Secondary Schools should vacate on 16th December, 2019 and resume for the 2nd Term academic activities on Monday, 6th of January, 2019 in accordance with the Lagos State School Calendar for 2019/2020 Academic Year.

While

All Public Pre-Primary and Primary Schools should vacate on 13th December, 2019 and resume for the 2nd Term Academic Activities on Monday 20th January, 2020 in accordance with the Lagos State School Calendar for 2019/2020 Academic Year. (Reason: The Public and Primary School Head Teachers and Teachers will be attending EkoExcell Pre-Service Professional Development and Technology Training Programme between the months of December, 2019 and January, 2020.)

NOTE: The new dates only affect public primary schools. According to the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy closing and resumption date earlier given for private schools and government secondary schools remain unchanged, the change in dates for public primary schools on the need to implement extensive retraining of teachers and prepare them for the 2020 session.

Please note that the curriculum of Lagos State private and public schools is not affected in any way by these changes and Lagos State will continue to implement her existing curriculum across the State.

Kindly disregard any misleading information contrary to the information above. 


All public and private schools, school leaders and school associations are implored to take note and adhere strictly to the this notice as defaulters will be sanctioned by the State Government on any school who fails to comply with the above notice.
