University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) Matriculates / Admits Eleven Thousand Six Hundred and Sixty-Five (11,655) Students Out of Over Fourty Thousand (40,000) Applicants at the 39th Matriculation Ceremony for 2019/2020 Academic Session.
The University of Maiduguri has matriculated eleven thousand six hundred and sixty five (11, 665) candidates admitted into the 100 and 200 level degree programmes of the University for the 2019-2020 Academic Session through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, Direct Entry and the placement of the University Remedial Arts and Science students.This was made known by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aliyu Shugaba, during the 39th Matriculation Ceremony held on Friday 31st January 2020 at the University Convocation Square.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that the University remains popular throughout Nigeria and beyond despite the current security challenges bedevilling the State, adding that admissions into the University have continued to be more and more competitive.
For every candidate admitted, he said, there are at least ten other qualified applicants who could not secure a place in the University. He therefore urged the matriculating students to make very good use of their stay in the University by working hard, making friends and shunning social vices like cultism, drug abuse and violent demonstrations, stressing that the students should familiarize themselves with all the University rules and regulations and strictly adhere to them.
The Vice-Chancellor then reiterated the University Management’s commitment to making everything feasible in maintaining law and order as well as combating criminal tendencies both within and outside the University, and he also congratulated the matriculating students on their oath taking ceremony and being part of the University of Maiduguri family.
A breakdown of the admitted students indicates that the highest number is in the Faculty of Science with three thousand six hundred and seventy five (3,675), followed by Faculty of Education with two thousand and eighty eight (2,088), Faculty of Social Sciences, one thousand four hundred and seventy three (1,473) and Faculty of Management Sciences with one thousand three hundred and thirty nine (1,339).
Others are Faculty of Engineering, seven hundred and ninty five (795), College of Medical Sciences, six hundred and forty seven (647), Faculty of Agriculture, six hundred and twenty six (626) Faculty of Arts, five hundred and fifteen (515) and Faculty of Law, two hundred and thirteen (213).
The least is Faculty of Veterinary Medicine with eighty nine (89), Faculty of Pharmacy with ninety four (94) and the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, one hundred and eleven (111).
Highlights of the Ceremony include the Oath Taking administered by the Director Senate and Academic matters, Mr. Filibus Yamta Mshelia, who represented the Registrar.
