Applications are invited from interested and suitably qualified Candidates for admission into the following Postgraduate programmes of the Gombe State University for the 2021/2022 academic session.

Admission Requirements
All applicants must possess the minimum O’Level requirements of five (5) relevant credits including English and Mathematics.Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting & Finance
i. Graduate of Gombe State University or any other recognized University
ii. Higher National Diploma (HND) holders with a minimum of Lower Credit in relevant discipline
iii. Holders of other professional qualifications which may be acceptable to the University Senate
Department of Accounting
M.Sc. Accounting
i. Graduates of Gombe State University in Accounting or any other recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Honours Lower Division
ii. Holders of relevant qualification, B.Sc. Ed. Accounting with a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting and Finance from a recognized University
iii. Candidates with Third Class Honours degree may be eligible to apply with a relevant Postgraduate Diploma with an Upper Credit
Ph.D. Accounting
iv. For Ph.D., a good M.Sc. Degree in Accounting is required.
Department of Business Administration
Postgraduate Diploma in Management
i. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Program Applicant must possess:
ii. Five (5) Ordinary Level Credit Passes including English Language and Mathematics.
iii.Applicant with a Bachelor’s degree (in any administration-related major) from Gombe State University or any accredited institution at home and abroad at a minimum CGPA or its equivalent at 2.00 or Third Class are eligible.
iv. Applicants with minimum of B.A./B.Sc./B.Tech./HND from any other field of study from a recognized University or Polytechnic may be considered.
v. Applicants of recognized Chartered Institutes or Professional bodies at a minimum of Upper Credit or its equivalent may be considered.
Master of Business Administration (MBA)
a) Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in any specialization of Business Administration from Gombe State University or any accredited institution at home and abroad with a minimum of Second Class Lower grade or Bachelor’s degree in any field of study other than Business administration provided such candidates possess postgraduate Diploma in any specialized field of
Business Administration from Gombe State University or any other accredited institution at home or abroad.
b) All candidates must possess the minimum O/L entry requirements into the University including credit passes in Mathematics and English.
c) Applicants with HND in any field of Business Administration with a minimum of Upper Credit shall be considered but must possess a postgraduate Diploma in any specialization of Business Administration from a recognized institution.Page 6 of 22
d) Applicants with Second Class Lower Division from any field of study other than Business Administration who possess a Post-graduate Diploma in any related field of Administration at Upper Credit level from Gombe State University or any recognized institution at home or abroad may be considered provided the University matriculation requirements are satisfied.
M.Sc. Business Administration
i. A good honours degree (at least second class) in Business Administration and/or related disciplines from Gombe State University or any recognized University is required.
ii. An applicant with a good Second Class Lower Division in relevant field of study other than Business Administration who possesses a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management, Marketing, Finance,
Entrepreneurship or any related discipline at upper credit from Gombe State University or any recognized University may be considered.
iii. Candidates are required to write a selection test.
Ph.D. Business Administration
For Ph.D., a good M.Sc. degree in Business Administration is required.
Department of Economics
Postgraduate Diploma in Development Economics (PGDDEC)
Applicants should possess any of a Bachelor degree, Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent qualification from a recognized University.
M.Sc. Economics
i. Candidates must possess at least Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in Economics from Gombe State University or any recognized
University.
ii. Candidates with good Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in Economics Education from Gombe State University or any other recognized University may be considered.
Ph.D Economics
For PhD. a good M.Sc in Economics is required.

M.A. English Language
i. Candidates must possess at least Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in English from Gombe State University or any recognized University.
ii. Candidates with good Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in English Education from Gombe State University or any other recognized University may be considered.
Ph.D. English Language
For Ph.D., a good M.A. Degree in English Language is required.
M.A. English Literature
i. Candidates must possess at least Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in English Literature from Gombe State University or any recognized University.
ii. Candidates with good Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in English Literature Education from Gombe State University or any other recognized University may be considered.

For Ph.D., a good M.A. Degree in English Literature is required.

M.A. Islamic Studies
i. Candidates must possess at least Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in Islamic Studies from Gombe State University or any recognized University.

M.Sc. Peace and Conflict Studies

Ph.D. Peace and Conflict Studies
For Ph.D., a good M.Sc. in Peace and Conflict Studies is required.
M.Sc. Political Science
i. Candidates must possess at least Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in Political Science from Gombe State University or any recognized University.
ii. Candidates with good Second Class Lower Division Honours degree in Political Science Education from Gombe State University or any other recognized University may be considered.
Ph.D. Political Science
For Ph.D., a good M.Sc. in Political Science is required.
Department of Public Administration
Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration (PGDPA)
i. Candidates should possess a Bachelor Degree or Higher National Diploma from a recognized Higher Institution in Nigeria or its equivalent from the Arts, Social or Management Sciences or a related field of study.
ii. Candidates from a pure science background must have had at least two years working experience and must have aspired to hold a managerial position in their organization of work.
Master of Public Administration (MPA)
i. A degree in relevant field from Gombe State University or from a recognized University with a minimum of second class lower division.
ii. A postgraduate diploma at upper credit in a relevant field from Gombe State University or a recognized university.Page 10 of 22
iii. In addition to the general requirements, graduates without a background in the Social and Management Sciences are expected to possess a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration or Postgraduate Diploma in Management before qualifying for admission.
M.Sc. Public Administration
Applicants should possess any of a Bachelor degree in Public Administration, Political Science and International Relations from Gombe State University or any other recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division.
Ph.D. Public Administration
For Ph.D., a good M.Sc. degree in Public Administration is required.
Department of Sociology
M.Sc. Sociology
(i) Five (5) O-level credits including English and Mathematics.
(ii) At least a good 2nd Class honours Lower Division bachelor’s degree in Sociology or Anthropology from a recognised university with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 is required.
(iii) Similarly, candidates with First Class or a good Second-Class Degree in a related social science discipline may also be considered for admission; although the Department may ask such candidates to fulfil other requirements (like passing an examination or taking some undergraduate modules) where it is deemed appropriate. In addition, admission is also determined on the basis of existing staff strength, and areas in which thesis supervision can be offered.
Ph.D. Sociology
i. Masters’ Degree in Sociology from Gombe State University or any other University recognised in Nigeria or abroad, with minimum CGPA of 3.5 in M.Sc.’s course work.
ii. In addition, those without qualifications in Sociology may be required to enrol for a Masters’ degree in Sociology and pass certain courses at the Masters’ or Undergraduate levels. Under certain circumstances Masters’ Candidates whose work, in the opinion of the supervisor, is of high quality may be upgraded to the Ph.D. programme. Such upgrading would however require the consideration and approval of the Postgraduate School’s Board and the University’s Senate.
Faculty of Education
Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
i. All prospective candidates must have a minimum of first degree obtained at not less than third class from Gombe State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Gombe State University.
ii. If an applicant is a graduate with Higher National Diploma (HND), the candidate must have graduated with a minimum of a grade not lesser than the credit level.
iii. The University’s requirements for matriculation must be satisfied.
M.Ed. Educational Psychology
All prospective candidates:
i. must possess bachelor's degrees with honours in Education obtained at not less than a second class in the lower division from Gombe State University (GSU) or any other University approved by the Senate of GSU,
ii. that are holders of non-education bachelor's degrees obtained at not less than a second class in the lower division from Gombe State University (GSU) or any other University approved by the Senate of GSU may be considered for admission if such candidates in addition possess Postgraduate Diploma in Education obtained at not less than the credit level from Gombe State University (GSU) or any other University approved by the Senate of GSU,
iii. that are holders of third class honours degrees in Education may be considered for admission provided that such candidates possess Postgraduate Diploma in Education obtained at not less than the credit level from Gombe State University (GSU) or any other University approved
by the Senate of GSU,
iv. that are graduates with Higher National Diploma (HND), must have graduated with a minimum of credit may be considered for admission if such candidates in addition possess Postgraduate Diploma in Education obtained at not less than the credit level from Gombe State University
(GSU) or any other University approved by the Senate of GSU
v. that have studied in languages other than in the English Language must provide evidence that they have met the University’s higher-level English language qualification requirements at the time of application,
vi. must have to undergo a selection test and interview,

Ph.D. Educational Psychology

iii. if non-education graduates in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, must have graduated with at least a second-class lower degree obtained from Gombe State University or any other University approved by the Senate of GSU and in addition, possess a PGDE obtained at not less than a Credit level
from Gombe State University or any other University approved by the Senate of Gombe State University,
iv. that are graduates of Education in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Integrated Science with a third-class degree must in addition, possess a PGDE obtained at not less than a Credit level from Gombe State University or any other University approved by the Senate of Gombe State University with a PGDE obtained at not less than a Credit level,
v. Non education graduates with HND in related Science programmes and have graduated with a minimum of credit may be considered for admission if such candidates in addition possess Postgraduate Diploma in Education obtained at not less than the credit level from Gombe State University or any other University approved by the Senate of Gombe State University,

The minimum qualification is Third Class Honours degree in Biochemistry, Biochemistry Education, Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, Food Science or
a Pass at Credit Level at HND in Science Laboratory Technology or any other equivalent qualification approved by the Senate of the Gombe State University.
M.Sc. Biochemistry
i. Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Gombe State University or any other recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Lower Honours degree.
ii. Candidates with Third Class Honours degree in Biochemistry or HND and PGD in Biochemistry may also be considered
Ph.D. Biochemistry
For Ph.D., a good M.Sc in Biochemistry is required.
Department of Biological Sciences
M.Sc. Degree Programmes:
A candidate who seeks admission into the academic master’s degree programme must hold a minimum of second class (Lower Division) Degree with a CGPA of not below2.75 on the scale o 4.00-5.00 Point of Gombe state University or any other recognized University. A minimum of second
class (Lower Division) Degree with a CGPA of not below2.40-2.74 on the scale of 0.00-5.00 Point of Gombe state University or any other recognized University or a relevant Postgraduate Diploma with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 (Merit) on a scale of 4.00-5.00, Provided that the University matriculation requirements are satisfied in the relevant area.
Ph.D. Degree Programmes:
A candidate who seeks admission into the Doctor of Philosophy programme must hold an academic master’s degree of Gombe state University or any other recognized University with a minimum of B grade or 3.5 on a scale of 0.00 – 5.0 provided that the University matriculation requirements arePage 16 of 22 satisfied in the relevant area. The Ph.D. degree programmes are available only for full time candidates.
M.Sc. Environmental Biology
i. Candidates must possess an M.Sc. degree in Environmental Biology, Ecology, Parasitology and Entomology or Fisheries and hydrobiology of Gombe State University or any other recognized University with a minimum of B grade or 3.5 on a scale of 0.00 – 5.0 provided that the
Gombe State University University matriculation requirements are satisfied in the relevant area.
ii. Candidates could possess any other qualification from any other institution recognized by the Postgraduate School based on the recommendation of Departmental Postgraduate Committee and approved by Senate of the Gombe State University.
Ph.D. Environmental Biology
i. A candidate who seeks admission into the Doctor of Philosophy programme must hold an academic master’s degree in any of Environmental Biology, Ecology, Parasitology and Entomology or
Fisheries and hydrobiology of Gombe State University or any other recognized University with a minimum of B grade or 3.5 on a scale of 0.00 – 5.0 provided that the University matriculation requirements are satisfied in the relevant area.
ii. Any other qualification from any other institution recognized by the Postgraduate School based on the recommendation of Departmental Postgraduate School Committee and approved by Senate of the Gombe State University could be considered.
M.Sc. Applied Parasitology & Entomology
Candidates should possess a minimum of Second Class Lower Division degree in Zoology, or related field from Gombe State University or any recognized University.
Ph.D. Applied Parasitology & Entomology
For Ph.D., a good M.Sc. Degree in Applied Parasitology & Entomology is required. The candidate must have a minimum of B grade or 3.5 on a scalePage 17 of 22 of 0.00 – 5.0 provided that the University matriculation requirements are satisfied in the relevant area.
M.Sc. Hydrobiology & Fisheries
i. Minimum of five credits passes in Biology, Chemistry, English language, Mathematics and Physics at ordinary level. Candidates with credit passes in Agricultural science or Geography may also be considered in lieu to physics.
ii. Minimum of second class lower honors degree in Biology, Zoology or B.Sc. (Ed) Biology of Gombe State University or of any recognized institution.
iii.Any other qualification from any other institution recognized by the Postgraduate School based on the recommendation of Departmental Postgraduate Committee and approved by Senate of the Gombe State University.
Ph.D. Hydrobiology & Fisheries
i. A candidate who seeks admission into the Doctor of Philosophy in Hydrobiology and Fisheries would apply for any of the following three areas of specialization:
a.Fisheries (Aquaculture and Fisheries management),
b.Applied Hydrobiology and Fisheries
c. Freshwater Ecology
ii. Candidates seeking admission into the Ph.D. Fisheries degree programme must in addition to the general university requirement possess any of the following qualifications:
iii.The candidate must hold an academic master’s degree in Fisheries and Hydrobiology of Gombe State University or any other recognized University with a minimum of B grade or 3.5 on a scale of 0.00 – 5.0 Provided that the University matriculation requirements are satisfied in the relevant area.
iv. Any other qualification from any other institution recognized by the Postgraduate School based on the recommendation of Departmental Postgraduate Committee and approved by the Senate of the Gombe State University could be considered.
M.Sc. Botany (Ecology)
Candidates should possess a minimum of Second Class Lower Division Degree in Botany, or related field from Gombe State University or any recognized University.

Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry
The minimum qualification is Third Class Honours degree in Chemistry, Chemistry Education, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, Food Science or a Pass at Credit Level for HND in Science Laboratory Technology or any other equivalent qualification approved by the Senate of the Gombe State University.
M.Sc. Organic/Inorganic Chemistry
i. Candidates should possess a Bachelors degree in Chemistry from Gombe State University or any other recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Lower Honours Division.
ii. Candidates with good Second Class Honours in B.Sc (Ed) Chemistry may be considered but would be required to take Undergraduate Courses they may be deficient in upon admission.
iii. Candidates with Third Class Honours degree in Chemistry or B.Sc. (Ed) Chemistry or HND and PGD in Chemistry may also be considered.
Ph.D. Organic/Inorganic Chemistry
For PhD, a good M.Sc. Degree in Organic or Inorganic Chemistry is required.

Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science (PGDCS)
The minimum qualification is Third Class Honours degree in Computer Science, Computer Science Education, or a Pass at Credit Level at HND, or any other equivalent qualification approved by the Senate of the Gombe State University.
M.Sc. Computer Science
i. Applicants should possess a Bachelors degree in Computer Science from Gombe State University or any other recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Lower Honours degree.
ii. Candidates with good Second Class Honours B.Sc. Ed. Computer Science may be considered but would be required to take Undergraduate Courses they may be deficient in upon admission.

Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Management (PGDEM)
The minimum qualification for admission is Third Class Honours degree in Geography or a Pass at Credit Level at Higher National Diploma or any other equivalent qualification approved by the Senate of the Gombe State University.
Master in Environmental Management (MEM)
i. A degree in Geography from Gombe State University or any recognized University with minimum of Second Class Lower Division is required.
ii. Applicants with Bachelors degree in related field or HND with a Postgraduate Diploma at Credit Level may be considered.
iii. Applicants with a Postgraduate Diploma in relevant fields may be considered.
M.Sc. Geography
i. Applicants should possess a Bachelors degree in Geography from Gombe State University or any other recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Lower Honours degree.
ii. Candidates with good Second Class Honours B.Sc. Ed. Geography may be considered but would be required to take undergraduate courses they may be deficient in upon admission.

iv. A candidate must have Bachelor degree in relevant field with at least a CGPA of 2.4 (Second Class Lower) from an NUC approved university.
v. All candidates must have five ‘O’ Level credit passes including Mathematics and English.
vi. Candidate with third class and university PGD with CGPA of 3.5 may be considered for admission into Masters programmes.
Duration of M.Sc. Microbiology Programmes
i. Full-time: 1½ years - 2½ years.
ii. Part-time: 2½ years - 4 years.
Duration of Ph.D. Microbiology Programmes:
i. A full time Doctoral programme shall run for a minimum of 6 semesters and a maximum of 8 semesters.
ii. Part-time Doctoral programmes shall run for a minimum of 8 semesters and a maximum of 10 semesters.
Ph.D. Microbiology Programmes
Basic Admission Requirements for Doctoral Programmes:
Candidates for Ph.D. admission must satisfy the following conditions:
i. Candidates must have five credit passes including English, Mathematics and two other relevant science subjects at ‘O’ Level.
ii. Candidates with Bachelors degree from an approved university must obtain a minimum of second class lower division with a CGPA of 3.0/5.0.
iii. Candidates must have Academic Master’s degree in relevant areas with a CGPA of 4.0/5.0 and thesis score not lower than 60% (B).
iv. Candidates must demonstrate adequate intellectual capacity, maturity and effective decision making and problem solving potentials.

Candidates should possess a minimum of Second Class Lower Honours degree in Physics or a good B.Sc. Ed. Physics with at least Second Class Lower Division from Gombe State University or any recognized University.
Ph.D. Physics
For Ph.D, a good M.Sc. Degree in Physics is required. A Ph.D. proposal of not more than 20 pages should be submitted along with the application form.

Interested candidates for all the School of Postgraduate Studies Programmes should pay the sum of Ten Thousand Naira (N10,000.00) via Gombe State University Remita Platform and submit the teller to Bursary Department, collect receipt and proceed to School of Postgraduate Studies for collection of the form(s)SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FORM(S)
Completed application form(s) should be returned or forwarded by mail to the Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies, Gombe State University, P. M. B 127, Tudun Wada, Gombe, Nigeria.
TRANSCRIPT SUBMISSION PROCESS
1. EMAIL TRAMSMISSION:
Transcripts may either be submitted electronically or through postage. When submitting electronically, use the following email address: [email protected].
Note that the email should be titled in this order: Transcript: Name of Programme, Name of applicant and Year of application. Also, transcripts should be sent directly from the awarding institution’s official email address with an official covering letter. Transcripts must be stamped and signed by the
officer in charge of issuance before it is forwarded.
2. POSTAL ADDRESS:
When submitting through the Post Office, the mail must be stamped or marked with institutional seal and should reach the Postgraduate School of Gombe State University intact for it to be acceptable for use. Send mail to:
