Abia State Scholarship Board (ASSB) Calls for Applications from Indigenes of Abia State for its 2019 Abia State Overseas Scholarship Programme (ASSP) for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students to Study in Australia, See Eligibility, Courses, Requirements, Application Guidelines and Deadline for 2018/2019 Academic Session.

The newly inaugurated Abia State Scholarship Board invites applications from interested and qualified candidates, especially students and civil servants of Abia State origin for undergraduate and postgraduate scholarship programmes in Australia.

The Abia State Scholarship program is an initiative of the Abia State Government, it is managed by the Abia State Scholarship Board. The very purpose of providing scholarship opportunities to the Abia State graduate students is to build social capital to meet the growing needs and workforce requirements of the Abia State. A special condition is placed under the Scholarships program is that the students should return to Abia State soon after completion of their course requirements and serve the government of Abia State for a period of 5 years.

The scholarship is for those who intend to study at the University of Newcastle and the University of New England, Australia.

Interested Candidates are to apply quickly as those for the first enrollment would leave for Australia by January 2020.

Objectives

This scholarship program is envisaged to fulfil the following specific objectives:
1. Increase access to health and medical research education.
2. Develop learners’ capacity to deliver excellent healthcare and medical services in Abia State.
3. Develop learners’ capacity to create international market for “Made in Aba” products and
resources in Abia State to transform knowledge and skills into wealth and a broader economic base.
4. Economically empower the individual and community by increasing employability.

Study Destination

Australia is a relatively a peaceful country with a high GDP per capita, and a relatively low rate of
poverty. Students can work while studying and on holidays, this gives students the opportunity to
gain valuable work experience and earn an income.

Admission requirements:

1. Completed four years bachelors degree
2. Minimum Five years work experience
3. O level certificate
4. Any other courses completed
5. IELTS or PTE result
6. Employment letter/ letter from employer

4. Offer Letter from University of Newcastle

• This Application is Applied Only for Indigenes of Abia State.
• If Eligible, Please Complete the Application in Block Form and in Ink.
• Incomplete Applications Will Not Be Processed.
• A Condition of the Abia State Scholarship Program is for Students to Return to Abia State After a Completion of Their Studies and Any Relevant Post Study Work Opportunities and Work With the Government of Abia State for a Period of Five Years as Per the Terms and Conditions in Abia State Government Scholarship Program.

Important Notice

• The Abia State government has subsidized the scholarship programmes for each of the candidates to the tune of 50 percent while the Universities bear the remaining percentage.
• A minimum of 100 candidates per year would benefit in the schoolarship programme which would last through out the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
• The postgraduate programme is for civil servants in the State who are not more than 50 years old or more than 25 years in the civil service.
• Courses to be done would be more of Information Technology and science based which would enhance development of the State.
• They equally disclosed that apartfrom the abroad scholarship, the Board would soon come up with modalities for scholarship within Nigeria.

Abia State Scholarship Board (ASSB) was inaugurated by the Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu on 5th of September, 2019.
