Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) is concluding plans to make the Centre for Gender Studies into a Centre of Excellence.
This was the outcome of a collaboratory and partnership meeting that took place between the management of the University led by the Vice Chancellor Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed and the President of ASPIRE WOMEN FORUM Barrister Zainab Buba Marwa in her Abuja office.The Vice Chancellor further asserted that the centre will very soon commence Ph.D in Gender studies amongst other programmes that complement the centre adding that the university has the required and requisite manpower to deliver on that mandate.
Responding, the President of ASPIRE WOMEN FORUM Barrister Zainab Buba Marwa informed the management the AWF is a Non Profit, Non Partisan organization whose main goal is to create a forum to impart knowledge and enlightenment for women and girls conveying insight to achieve their aspirations thus creating a portal for achieving gender balance in all facets of organized living.
She charged the university and management of the centre to consider the introduction of short courses in Gender Studies and to run Specialized courses like Disaster Management which is very contemporary, she also promised to use her wide network of contacts in the actualization of the Centre of Excellence which is expected to be the very first of its kind in North Central Nigeria.
A standing committee for the actualization of the Centre for Excellence will be constituted by both parties to work out the modalities before the signing of a memorandum of understanding which is expected to be very soon.
