General Entry Admission Requirements
1. A candidate seeking admission must possess five credit passes including English and Mathematics and other relevant subjects at O' Level. Candidates seeking Admission into a Master’s Degree or Postgraduate Diploma of the University of Jos must hold a good (First or second class) Honours Degree of this University or of other Universities recognized by the Senate of University of Jos. The first degree must be in a discipline relevant to the programme into which admission is being sought.2. A candidate seeking admission into an M.Phil/Ph.D programme must in addition possess a Master’s degree in the relevant discipline. M.Phil/Ph.D candidates are in addition required to have returned a Cumulative Score Average (CSA) of 60% and above in the final assessment result for the Master’s Degree as well as 60% and above in the Research Project. On admission, M.Phil/Ph.D candidates register for M.Phil in the first instance and on satisfactory performance may be subsequently upgraded to Ph.D registration.

Entry Requirements:
M.Phil/Ph.D. candidates should possess at least a second class upper degree at the B.A. level and a good masters of Arts degree in the relevant discipline from recognized University. The M.A. must be of the standard specified in the Regulations Governing higher Degree and Diplomas.

To qualify for admission into an M.A. programme, a candidate must possess a good honours degree (B.A.) in the relevant discipline (Linguistics) with preferably a first class or a second upper division from a recognized University.

Candidates for admission into the Department of English (M.A. in English Language/Literature-in-English) must possess a minimum of five O' Level credit passes which must include English Language and Literature in English. Entry Requirements:
The candidate must possess a good Honours Degree in Education. An M.Ed. candidate with a first Degree other than B.A (Ed.), B.Sc. (Ed.) or B.Ed. must possess a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or evidence both of high attainment in the proposed area of study for the Masters of Education Degree and also of breath of study shown to the satisfaction of the Faculty by such things as existing qualifications, publications etc.
At least two years teaching experience judged appropriate for the Faculty of Education or at least three years’ experience in Education other than as a teacher, judged appropriate for this purpose by the Faculty. A candidate with a second class upper or above is exempted from this provision. Candidates with B.Sc (Ed) or B.Ed Degrees awarded by the University of Jos or any approved University may be qualified for admission to read M.Ed (Curriculum) and M.Sc (Ed) Educational Technology.

Entry Requirements:
Admission into M.Phil/Ph.D Accounting and Finance requires a minimum Weighted Score Average (WSA) of 60% in M.Sc. Accounting, MBA (Accounting and Finance) M.Sc. or MBA (Finance) from a recognized University.

Entry Requirements:
The minimum qualification required is a first Degree in Accounting or equivalent qualifications plus a minimum of two years’ experience after first degree graduation. All first degrees must be at least Second Class lower Honours.
PGD Programmes:

Entry Requirements:
For postgraduate diploma in Accounting, a first degree, not less than second class lower division in any field other than Accounting or a third class in Accounting is required.

Entry Requirements:
Admission into M.Phil/Ph.D Management requires a candidate with good Master of Science Degree in Management/Business Administration with at least an average of ‘B’ grade (60%) which includes course work and research thesis from a recognized University.

Entry Requirements:
The M.Sc. Management programme requires five credit passes including English Mathematics and Economics/Commerce at O' Level shall have obtained. Also, a Bachelor Degree in Business Management/Administration with a minimum of Second class (lower) from a recognized University.
PGD Programmes:

Entry Requirements:
For PGD Management, Five credit passes including English and Mathematics at o' Level, a first degree, not less than second class lower division in any field other than Management or a third class in Management is required.

Entry Requirements:
All candidates must have five credit passes including English, Mathematics, Physics and two other relevant science subjects at ‘O’ Level.
Candidates with Bachelor’s degrees from an approved University must obtain a minimum of second class lower division with a CGPA of 3.00 in Computer Science or Related Courses for an academic programme.
Candidates with at least a third class degree or HND and University Postgraduate Diploma a with minimum CGPA of 3.00 or a minimum Weighted Score Average (WSA) of 60% in Computer science may be considered for admission into the academic Master’s degree programme.
2. Department of Geology

Candidate for admission into the M.Sc. Pure Physics programme should possess at least 2nd class (Lower Division) Bachelor of Science degree of a recognized University or its equivalent in any of the following disciplines: Physics or Mathematics.
Candidate for M.Sc. Applied Physics should possess at least a 2nd class lower division degree from a recognized University in the following disciplines: Electronics, Radiation Physics, Computer Science, Engineering or any other related field will be accepted. Candidates without a physics background may be required to take and pass prescribed undergraduate physics courses before proceeding with the M.Sc. Programme.
All candidates must have five credit passes including English, Mathematics and two other relevant science subjects at O' Level.
PGD Programmes:
a. Postgraduate Diploma in Electronics Electrical Technology and Physics
Entry Requirements:
For the Postgraduate Diploma programmes, candidates must possess five credit passes including English, Mathematics and two other relevant science subjects at O' Level as well as Higher National Diploma (not less than Upper Credit) or first degrees in Physical Sciences including Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics but not lower than 3rd class honours.
All candidates must have five credit passes including English, Mathematics and two other relevant science subjects at O' Level.

Level while Fellowship of relevant professional bodies e.g. (FNISLT) may be considered for admission.
Postgraduate Diploma Programmes:
a. Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental and Industrial Chemistry.
Entry Requirements:
For the Postgraduate Diploma programme, a candidate must possess five credit passes including English, Mathematics and two other relevant Science subjects at O' Level and a minimum of 3rd Class degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry.
5. Department of Plant Science and Technology
M.Phil/Ph.D. Programmes:
a. M.Phil/Ph.D Cytogenetics and Plant Breeding
b. M.Phil/Ph.D Applied Microbiology and Plant Pathology
Entry Requirements:
To qualify for admission into the M.Phil/Ph.D. programme, a candidate must possess a good master’s degree in a subject relevant to his/her intended area of specialization. The quality of the Master’s degree as determined by the academic transcript must meet the standard stipulated in Regulation 44 (3) i.e. a Cumulative Score Average (CSA) of 60% and above and a score in project report of not below 60%.
M.Sc. Programmes:
a. M.Sc. Cytogenetics and Plant Breeding
b. M.Sc. Applied MicroBiology and Plant Pathology
Entry Requirements:
To qualify for admission into M.Sc. Applied Microbiology and Plant Pathology or M.Sc. Cytogenetic and Plant Breeding, a candidate shall possess a first Class or Second Class Upper Division honours degree in Botany, Microbiology, Biochemistry or in related areas of Agriculture. In exceptional cases, candidates with 2nd Class Honours Lower division in the above subjects may be considered for admission. A degree in Botany, Forestry or Agriculture is required for M.Sc. Cytogenetics and Plant Breeding.
For admission into M.Sc. Applied Microbiology and Plant Pathology, FIMLT (Microbiology or allied discipline like bacteriology), may be considered.
6. Department of Zoology
M.Phil/Ph.D. Programmes:
a. M.Phil/Ph.D. Entomology (with specialization in Entomology (Medical, Agricultural and General),
b. M.Phil/Ph.D. Parasitology(Medical, Veterinary and General)
c. M.Phil/Ph.D. Applied Hydrobiology and Fisheries
Entry Requirements:
Candidates applying for the M.Phil/Ph.D. Programme must be graduates of approved Universities having a minimum Cumulative Score Average (CSA) of 60% at the Master of Science level. This must be in the field of Zoology or in recognized allied programmes.
M.Sc. Programmes:
a. M.Sc. Applied Entomology and Parasitology
b. M.Sc. Applied Hydrobiology and Fisheries
c. M.Sc. Conservation Biology
Entry Requirements:
Candidates applying for the MSc. Programme must possess a first or second-class Bachelor’s degree in Zoology, Biology, Agriculture and allied subjects, or a relevant medical or veterinary degree, normally with a first or second class honours. In addition, applicants with Fellow of Institute for Medical Laboratory Technology (FIMLT) and allied qualifications with a minimum of two years post qualification experience may be considered.
7. Department of Microbiology
M.Phil/Ph.D Programmes
a. M.Phil/Ph.D Microbial Biotechnology

Entry Requirements:
Candidate must possess O’ Level qualifications (5 credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry, Biology and any other science subject with at least a pass in Physics at O’ Level). Candidates must also obtain at least a WSA of 60% or CGPA of 3.5 in a Masters degree programme in Microbiology or allied disciplines. The Master’s degree would be required to be related to the area of microbiology which they seek to take a Ph.D. study.
M.Sc. Programmes:
a. M.Sc. Microbial Biotechnology
b. M.Sc. Food and Industrial Microbiology
c. M.Sc. Environmental Microbiology
d. M.Sc. Public Health and Sanitary Microbiology

Entry Requirements:
Candidate must possess a minimum of 5 credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry, Biology and any other science subject with at least a pass in Physics at O’ Level.
Applicants shall normally hold a first degree with a minimum of a second class lower of the University of Jos or any other University in Microbiology, Biochemistry or relevant allied courses.
Candidates with third class degree of the University of Jos or any other University in Microbiology, Biochemistry or relevant allied courses with three years post qualification experience may be admitted after obtaining a postgraduate diploma in Microbiology with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5 point scale and 3.00 on a 4 point scale. The eligibility of such candidates for admission shall be determined by the Postgraduate School Board in consultation with the Department.
Candidates with Postgraduate Diploma in Microbiology or any other relevant allied disciplines with a minimum of Lower Credit (CGPA of 3.50) of the University of Jos or any other recognized University with one year work experience may be admitted.
Candidates with PASS degree, HND or PASS postgraduate Diploma do not qualify for admission.
Postgraduates Programmes:
a. Postgraduate Diploma in Microbiology
Entry Requirements:
Candidate must possess a minimum of 5 credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.
Candidates with Third Class degree of the University of Jos or any other University in Microbiology, Biochemistry or relevant allied courses with one year post qualification experience may be admitted
Holders of HND with at least credit level pass in Microbiology and the courses listed above. Candidates with PASS degree or HND do not qualify for admission.
Other general requirements for admission into postgraduate diploma programme in University of Jos as provided in the School of Postgraduate Studies guidelines not already mentioned shall apply. These requirements are reviewed from time to time in accordance with the University postgraduate framework.
8. Department of Mathematics

Entry Requirements:
For M.Phil/Ph.D programmes, candidates shall possess an M.Sc. in Psychology and must have earned a minimum Weighted Score Average (WSA) of 60.00%. Candidates must also satisfy requirements of the University for B.Sc. Psychology.

Entry Requirements:
Candidates for admission into MSc. Programmes in Psychology must possess at least a second class Lower (2.2) Honours Degree in Psychology from a recognized University with at least a CGPA of 3.00 on a 5 point scale, or a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology. Candidates for M.Sc. Social and Terrorism Psychology must have a minimum of Second Class Lower Division and above in Psychology. Those with a Pass or Third Class degrees in Psychology will require an additional Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology. Persons without a first degree in Psychology MUST have a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology. Candidates must also satisfy requirements of the University for B.Sc. Psychology.
Postgraduate Diploma Programmes:
a. Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology
Entry Requirements:
Candidates for the postgraduate diploma programme should possess honours Degrees in disciplines outside of Psychology. Holders of Third Class Degrees in Psychology shall also be considered. This course is designed for re-tooling those whose initial degree were outside of psychology or whose first degrees in Psychology were poor but are interested in pursuing higher degrees in Psychology. This program runs for two semesters. Candidates must also satisfy requirements of the University for B.Sc. Psychology.

For M.Sc. Biochemistry, candidates must possess with Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and/or Molecular Biology with a minimum of second class lower division from a recognized University. The selection process is based on the quality of the academic transcript of the first degree. There maybe an interview. Candidates with MBBS degree and FIMLT Clinical Biochemistry with at least two years post qualification experience may also be considered. However, such candidates must take a concessional written entrance examination and subsequent interviews.

The MPH programme is open to graduates with first degree in relevant science based courses with minimum CGPA of 3.0 from the University of Jos or any other institution recognized by the Senate of the University of Jos.
The candidate must possess other entry requirements of the University of science-based Disciplines. Basic admission requirements set by University of Jos for Master’s Degree courses including a minimum of five credits in relevant subject at school certificate level.
MBBS or BDS, DVM, Pharmacy, and BMLD degree
Graduates of health sciences in Nursing, Biochemistry and Physiology with at least 2nd Class lower division with minimum of CGPA 3.00 may be considered.
Graduates of health related courses in Human Nutrition, Demography, Health Education, Environmental Health and Biostatistics with at least 2nd Class lower division with minimum of CGPA 3.00 and at least 4 years working experience in a Public Health role may also be considered.
Graduate of other science based courses with 2nd Class lower with minimum of CGPA 3.0 and at least 5 years’ experience in a Public Health role.
8. Department of Clinical Epidemiology
M.Sc. Programmes:
a. M.Sc. Clinical Epidemiology
Entry Requirements:
The M.Sc. Clinical Epidemiology programme is open with clinical science related disciplines and MBBS/BDS degrees with minimum CGPA of 3.0 from the University of Jos or any other institutions recognized by the Senate of the University of Jos. The Candidate must possess other entry requirements of the University for science-based Disciplines with a minimum of five (5) credits in relevant subjects as School Certificate level.
i. Basic admission requirements set by University of Jos for Master Degree course.
ii. MBBS or BDS degree with at least 4 years’ experience in Clinical Practice.
iii. Candidates from Research Based Clinical institutions will have an advantage.
Mode of Admission/Admission Criteria
Prospective candidates shall apply for admission following an advertisement by the Postgraduate School of the University of Jos. The Postgraduate admission committee of the Department of Community Medicine will then select candidates through a competitive process.
Specific Requirements
The M.Sc. Clinical Epidemiology programme is a full time course covering a minimum period of twelve (12) months and maximum of eighteen (18) months. All M.Sc. Clinical Epidemiology students shall take foundational courses, which provide a common body of knowledge in Public Health Philosophy and Practice. All students shall be required to take all core courses. Clinical Epidemiology students shall take five (5) compulsory foundational courses in Public Health and all core courses for core courses for the award of MSc Clinical Epidemiology with a minimum of 36 credit units. The Dissertation shall be orally defended before a panel consisting of both internal and external examiners

The Programme:
The course is open to candidates who possess first degree in relevant science-based courses with minimum CGPA of 3.0 from the University of Jos or any other institution recognized by the Senate of the University of Jos. Evidence of current employment within the Public Health system in Nigeria and a written commitment to return to work post and serve for at least three years after graduation, will be an added advantage. The candidate must possess other entry requirements of the University for science-based Discipline.
