Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Charges University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) to Adhere Strictly to the Guidelines of Credible Admission Governing the Conduct of Admission in the Country.
The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. ls-haq Oloyede, has charged the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) on the need to adhere strictly to the extant guidelines governing the conduct of admission in the country.The Registrar also enjoined the University to take advantage of the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) which has been put in place to automate the conduct of admissions into tertiary institutions in the country.
He frowned at the flagrant abuse of the platform vis-a-vis the conduct of admissions without recourse to it stating that the Board would not honour any admission done outside the purview of CAPS.
The Registrar gave this admonition when the Vice-Chancellor of the University paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Wednesday, January 8, 2020.
Prof. Oloyede pointed out that the waming became necessary in view of the glaring infractions committed by some institutions and assured the Vice-Chancellor that, “As long as the right thing is done, the Board would continue to partner institutions in the country in order to reposition the education sector to meet the challenges of the 21 st century.”
The Registrar, while urging the University on the need to ensure that equity, transparency and fairness take centre stage in the conduct of its admissions, declared that the Board would not tolerate any action capable of jeopardizing the interest of candidates in their quest for quality tertiary education.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Arizechukwu lgwe, commended the Registrar for the various initiatives brought to bear in the Board particularly as pertains to CAPS and promised not to indulge in any unwholesome practices that could thwart the idea behind it.
The Vice-Chancellor described Prof. Oloyede as a mentor who has garnered long years of experience in the tertiary education sector.
He promised to follow diligently, the step-by-step process of admission on CAPS to ensure that the University remains truly the University of Nigeria.
