2020 UTME: Notice to Candidates with Fingerprint Thumbprint Problems

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Important Notice / Advisory to Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) CBT Centers on Candidates with Biometric / Finger Print (Medical / Psychological) Problems and Could Not be Captured at the CBT Center During 2020 UTME Registration and Examination.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) wishes to inform all JAMB CBT centers and candidates having issues with biometric capture and finger print problems that they are to take note of the following:

Latest Update: JAMB has reassured candidates with Fingerprint Thumbrint problems during the 2020 UTME Registration that the Board will look into all outstanding issues on individual merit, as soon as the present global challenge is addressed.

This was disclosed by the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) via their official twitter handle while giving a reply to candidate who had thumbprint issue during the 2020 UTME registration.

“Some of us haven’t still written our exams for 2020 due to thumbprint issues, we were re_registered and told that we would be called upon to write our exams then this pandemic break again. My question is what is our fate? Are we still going to write??“

JAMB reply: “The Board will look into all outstanding issues on individual merit, as soon as the present global challenge is addressed.“



2020 UTME Registration: JAMB Notice to CBT Centers on Candidates with Biometric Issues

1. The following must be followed for any candidate whose finger print could not be captured due to one reason or the other.

(i) The candidate must be directed to the JAMB Office in the State for proper documentation

(ii) At the JAMB Office, the basic details of the candidate is entered into excel sheet using the following template format below:

  • S/NO 
  • Candidate Name
  • GSM No.
  • Email Address
  • Profile Code
  • Preferred Exam State
  • Full Address 
  • Reason for non BVM Capture 


RECOMMENDED: JAMB Biometric Verification Policy Notice to Examiners & Candidates.

(iii) Any candidate with problem of biometric capturing and not documented at JAMB Office, shall not be allowed to register for the 2020 UTME 

(iv) The Board shall contact and inform the candidate where and when his/her registration and Examination is to take place for the 2020 UTME

Reason for non BVM Capture:
1. Medical
2.Deformed fingers
3. Burnt Fingers
4. Incomplete Fingers
5. Amputated/non.existent hand etc
