 Following governor Sanwo-Olu's approval for the reduction of tuition fees for students of the Lagos State University (LASU), from 67,000 to 57,000, the students have rejected the reduction calling for a total reversal to the old rate.

The Student Union Government released a statement on Saturday, 30 January through its public relations officer, Adams Zaenab Olawumi, appreciating the university management and the state government for the swift response, but insisted that the students wanted a complete reversal to the old rate of N25,000, rather than N10,000 reduction.

The union said it would continue to negotiate with the university management and state government for a downward review of the reduced school fees to the initial amount of #25,300.


Information reaching us has confirmed that the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved a reduction in the tuition fee for students of Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this on Friday, via his official facebook page.

The post reads, “Flash: Lagos State government reduces tuition fee for students of Lagos.”

When contacted, Wahab said the approval was in tandem with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu commitment in providing qualitative education at an affordable to all and sundry, irrespective of class, gender, ethnicity, race, among others.

“Yes, the Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has graciously approved a reduction in LASU tuition fees. An official statement will be issued in due course,” he said.
