Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO) Student Union Government (SUG) and Part-Time Student Union Election Timetable for 2021 Has been Published.

Latest Update: RUGIPO Management Suspends SUG elections Until Further Notice

At its emergency meeting of Thursday 11th February, 2021, Management received some reports pertaining to Students' Union Government (SUG), Part-Time Students Association's (PTSA), Students' Representative Council (SRC) and Halls of Residence Elections.

Management carefully discussed the issues raised in the report, and decided to SUSPEND INDEFINITELY, elections into the various elective positions of the Students Union Government (SUG), Part-Time Students Association's (PTSA), Students Representative Council (SRC) and Halls of Residence FORTHWITH.

Thus, the elections remain SUSPENDED.

To this end, I am directed to humbly convey the foregoing decision of Management for IMMEDIATE appropriate action.


Consequent upon the Rector's approval on elections of executive members for Students Union Government and Part-Time Students Union, after the stakeholders' meeting held on 2011 February, 2021, the Directorate wishes to inform the entire members of the Polytechnic that the elections would hold between 5th and 9th February, 2021.


The Time Table for the election is as follows:

  • 2nd February, 2021: Lifting of ban on Students Politics
  • 2nd February, 2021 Constitution of Electoral Committee
  • 3rd February, 2021 Purchase and Submission of electoral Forms
  • 4 February 2021 Screening of Eligible Aspirants
  • 5th February, 2021 Departmental, Faculty, Hall Executives Elections
  • 6th-7th February, 2021 e-Campaign
  • 8th February.2021: Student Representatives Council Election on February, 2021
  • 9th February 2021: Election and Announcement of Results


The students are to be informed that no matter the shortness of the tenure of the new regime There will be transition to a new government at the end of the second semester In conducting the election, the electoral officials and students must comply with COVID-19 protocols.

In view of this, all activities in respect of the election which shall be on-line (voting and campaign) (a) The publicity and campaign shall be e-campaign and the election shall be e-voting.
