Lagos State University (LASU) - JAGAL Foundation Scholarship List of Successful Beneficiaries for the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 Academic Session Has been Released and Uploaded Online.

This is to inform all students of the Lagos State University (LASU) who applied for the JAGAL Foundation Scholarship Programme that the list of successful beneficiaries for the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic session has been released.

15 indigent, but, scholarly students of the Lagos State University had received a total sum of Five Million Nine Hundred Thousand Naira (N5.9M) for the 2021 Annual Scholarship Award from the JAGAL FOUNDATION.

Jagal Foundation - a primary not - for - profit organization established in March, 2016, is dedicated to improving the lives of Nigerians through programmes in education, economic employment initiatives, training, health care, Counseling as well as supporting charities whose initiatives align with its vision.
Speaking at the Jagal Foundation Scholarship Day at Lagos State University and official presentation of scholarship cheques to the beneficiaries, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Jagal Foundation, Mr. Maher Jarmakani gave a brief background of the foundation, adding that, the foundation visited to give back to the society through the University.

Mr. Jarmakani further expressed thus "...the foundation came into Lagos State University in 2016 during the reign of the immediate past Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Adigun FAGBOHUN, SAN, NPOM who happened to be a family friend."

While thanking the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oyedamola Oke and members of the Management for the hospitality extended to the Jagal team, and for their commitment to the growth and development of the institution, Mr. Jarmakani added that the immediate past Vice Chancellor was of great support to him.

He advised the beneficiaries to find and activate what makes a difference in their lives, his words "... some of the things you overlook always become what propel you to the world. Take all your modules very seriously, you do not know which one will make you." he said.

Jagal Foundation's Ms. Funmi Shokunbi highlighted the areas covered by the foundation to include but not limited to Agricultural value chain development; enhance the productive capacity and capabilities of resource poor farmers in Nigeria; reduce poverty through processing of agricultural produce and value addition, provision of necessary agricultural infrastructure and trainings. In the education sector, Jagal Foundation provides scholarship scheme for primary, secondary and University level, project management and professional trainings; and provision of school stationaries. Other areas covered are vocational skills development, health care and counseling.

She stated that the draft presented to each of the beneficiaries covers tuition fee, accommodation expenses, feeding allowance and other expenses in recognition of their excellent performance "...we can not express our gratitude enough for the opportunity to meet you all and share in your journey to success", she said.

The Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oyedamola Oke in his keynote address, welcomed the Jagal team on behalf of the University Management and said "...I am aware that the programme started about 5years ago. It is nice to have you and I thank you specially. I'm equally aware that our former Vice Chancellor had a good relationship with you. We want it to be more than scholarship...you are into agriculture, our School of Agriculture is about four years old, our first set will be graduating shortly, we want you to come in, we are not Oliver Twist, but, we are demanding for more."

Prof. Oke, highly praised the initiative and thanked the team for the great gesture towards the second best university in Nigeria as ranked by the Times Higher Education (THE) world university rankings.
The Acting Dean, Students' Affairs Dr. Tajudeen Olumoko earlier in his speech thanked the leadership of Jagal Foundation for deeming it fit to initiate such great scheme, regretting a situation where academically sound, but, indigent students are not having the right platform to reach their fullest potentials.

Dr. Olumoko congratulated the awardees who he described as worthy beneficiaries of the scholarship, charging them to see the scholarship award as a springboard to greater achievements and scholarships.
The highpoint of the event was the presentation of cheque of Two Hundred and Ninety Five Thousand (N295,000:00) to each of the awardees.

On behalf of all the recipients, Adebiyi Kehinde of the Department of Microbiology appreciated the University Management for providing the conducive environment to actualize their academic feat and Jagal Foundation for the scholarship scheme.

The University Registrar, Amuni Mohammed Olayinka, Esq. gave the vote of thanks.

The University Librarian, Dr. Emmanuel Lai Adebayo attended the event.

The Deputy Registrar, Vice Chancellor's Office, Mr. Wale Anthony, Principal Assistant Registrar, Students' Affairs, Mrs. Olubunmi Agosu - Lewis, members of staff of the Students' Affairs, University Multimedia Centre and Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations (CIPPR) were part of the programme.

The brief ceremony was held in the Conference room of the Vice Chancellor, 6th floor, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
