UNIMED Appoints Prof. Roseangela Nwuba Deputy Vice-Chancellor

University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) Has Approved the Appointment of Prof. Roseangela Nwuba as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University.

The Governing Council of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo City, Ondo State has approved the appointment of Prof. Roseangela Nwuba as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University.

The appointment was made on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at the 13th Statutory meeting of the Council under the leadership of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Temitayo Fawehinmi.

Prof. Nwuba’s appointment followed her election at the 13th Special Senate Meeting held on Monday July 5, 2021.

Nwuba is a Professor of Molecular and Cellular Parasitology. She took up the position of Dean, Faculty of Science in August, 2018 after she served as the pioneer Head of Department of Biological Sciences from December 2015 to July, 2018.

She also recently won a Seeding Labs Instrumental Award which led to the provision of equipment worth millions of naira to accelerate capacity building, institutional research and effective teaching within the institution.

Prior to joining the University of Medical Sciences, Prof. Nwuba served at the University of Ibadan from 1985 to 2015 where she rose from the position of an Assistant Lecturer to the Head of the Cellular Parasitology Programme, Cell Biology and Genetics Unit, at the Department of Zoology.

She and her Malaria Research Group were instrumental to the successful winning of several international grants from funding agents such as the World Health Organization and Welcome Trust. Their research focus was mainly on characterizing different specific antibodies against malaria antigens in individuals naturally exposed to malaria, which can be exploited for the development of an effective vaccine for the control of Malaria. During that period she trained over 45 postgraduate students for their Masters and Ph.D Degrees.

She has published her research findings in several reputable journals and delivered presentations in both local and international conferences. She holds a B.Sc. Degree in Zoology from the University of Jos; MSc and Ph.D Degree in Molecular and Cellular Parasitology from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.
She is happily married to Engr. Marc Nwuba with three lovely children, Chiamaka, Kosy and Toby.
