YABATECH SUG Election Date & Voting Guidelines 2022/2023
Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) Students Union Election (SUG) Date / Timetable, Eligibility, Code of Conduct and Election Voting Guidelines for the 2022/2023 Academic Session.

The management of the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has released and published the Students Union Election Date / Timetable, Eligibility, Code of Conduct and Electoral Guidelines for the 2022/2023 academic session.


NOTE:
This is to bring to the Notice of entire Students of Yaba College of Technology to take note of the following ahead of the upcoming Students Union Elections;
1) Election shall be both Physical and Virtual.
2) Physical voting shall take place simultaneously in both Epe and Yaba campuses.
3) Only HND 2 Full-Time students in both campuses shall vote physically.
4) ND 1 & HND 1 Full-Time students are not eligible to vote.
5) All ND 2 Full-Time students shall vote online.
6) All Part-Time students shall vote online.
7) Voting shall take place between 9am-2pm.

Yaba College Of Technology (YABATECH) Students Union Election Eligibility / Electoral Guidelines 2022/2023

  1. The Electoral Committee shall conduct elections into positions in the Executive, Judiciary, and Legislative Council of the Students’ Union for the 2022/2023 academic session.
  2. Full-Time students of the College registered for 2021/2022 and Part-Time students registered for the 2022/2023 academic session shall be eligible to participate in this election.
  3. All categories of students mentioned in 2 above having met the set academic, moral, and other specified criteria shall be qualified to contest for any of the vacant positions in the Student Union.
  4. Candidates to be nominated must be fair-minded and with impeccable character.
  5. Contestants for the position of President, Vice president (Academics), General Secretary, and Finance Director must be full-time HND students with a minimum academic grade CGPA of 3.0 (Upper credit).
  6. Contestants for the position of President must possess an ND certificate from Yabatech.
  7. Contestants for the position of Assistant General Secretary, Welfare Director, Social Director, Treasurer, and PRO must have a minimum academic grade CGPA of 2.5 (Lower credit).
  8. The position of Treasurer is reserved exclusively for ND PT/FT female students.
  9. All positions for Epe campus also include B.Sc students with a minimum CGPA of 3.0
  10. Candidates for Executive positions shall be elected through the electronic voting method.
  11. All eligible voters must possess functional telephone numbers, and reliable e-mail addresses registered in the College portal.
  12. In the event that only one candidate is duly nominated for any of the positions, such candidate (in all cases) shall be declared elected, with at least 50% of the total vote cast.
  13. If there are two or more candidates nominated for each of the positions, the candidates with the highest number of votes shall be declared duly elected.
  14. In the event of a tie between two candidates in any of the positions, a second round of the election will be conducted within 48hrs.

Yaba College Of Technology (YABATECH) Students Union Election Code of Conduct

1. Nomination forms once submitted shall not be withdrawn
2. Candidates shall conduct their campaigns with decorum
3. Candidates shall not deface the College with campaign materials
NB: With respect to the college concern for the environment, the use of FLEX BANNERS is
highly recommended.
4. Candidates shall avoid the use of malignant and derogatory statements about opponent or other candidates during campaign and debates
5. Candidates shall be responsible for any damage caused in the placement or removal of campaign
materials, and shall be liable for the cost of repairing such damages
6. Campaigns are highly prohibited on the date of the Elections.
7. Vote buying is prohibited
8. There shall be no campaign during voting
9. Any attempt to subvert the general will of voters shall be reported to the appropriate authority
10. Agents are to observe and report any act of misconduct to the electoral committee. Any agent
that conduct himself or herself in a disorderly manner or disrupt the electioneering process
shall be made to face disciplinary action in accordingly
11. Candidates that violate regulations in these rules will be subject to disciplinary action. In almost
all cases this will result in outright disqualification.
12. Election shall be conducted within the hours of 9am and 2pm, Wednesday 18th January 2023.

This is to inform the college community that the Yaba College of Technology Students Union Elections has been scheduled to hold on Wednesday 18th January 2023.

A. Physical Voting (For Full-Time Students on Yaba Campus Only)

1. Arrive the voting centre (Sport Pavilion) early. Voting starts at 9am.
2. Identify your school among the seven accreditation spots in the voting centre.
3. Wait in the queue to present your college ID card/signed course registration form/acceptance fee receipt, for accreditation.
4. Collect ballot booklet and proceed to the polling booth to tick your choice candidates on the ballot papers
5. Proceed to the ballot boxes and drop your ballot papers in the boxes assigned to each position.
6. Leave the voting centre. Only the agents can wait after voting.

B. Virtual Voting (For All Part-Time Students & Students on EPE campus)

1. Confirm your eligibility on “yabatech.edu.ng/yasu.php”. Note that only students who have completed their registration before
Wednesday, 14th October 2021 are eligible to vote.
2. On the eligibility page, type your matric number or your email address as registered on your student portal and click “CONFIRM NOW”
button. The eligibility response is displayed.
3. Log on to your email for the voting link, three (3) hours before the commencement of e-voting. If the link is not in the INBOX, it will
surely be in your SPAM FOLDER.
4. Click on the voting link to take you to the voting platform. Note that the voting platform will only be accessible between 9am-2pm
5. Select the offices and vote one after the other.
6. Be sure of your choice candidate. You will not be allowed to make changes after submission. You can only cast your votes once per
office category.
7. Your votes count immediately you cast them.

PROCEDURE AT THE POLL

1. All ballot boxes must be opened and closed by the electoral official. No voting will occur before 9am and after 2pm. However, everybody
on queue at 2pm shall be allowed to cast their votes.
2. Candidates, and all their campaign teams, are not allowed at the voting centre except for the purpose of casting their own ballots.
3. In the case of physical voting, all eligible voters must present their IDENTITY CARDS for accreditation and thumb nail marking with
indelible ink before given ballot papers to cast their votes.

AGENTS

1. Any eligible voter, excluding the aspirants, can serve as agent.
2. Aspirants cannot serve as agents under any circumstance.
3. Only One agent can be approved per an aspirant in all circumstance.
4. All agents must be approved by the electoral committee.
5. All aspirants must forward names of their agents in writing to the electoral committee for screening and validation.
6. Any agent not approved by the electoral committee must be replaced immediately and shall not be allowed to perform such function on the
day of election.
7. The absence of an agent at any point during the voting will not in any way invalidate the election.
8. While at the polling centre, an agent is authorized only to observe the voting process.
9. If any agent contravenes any election rule, or become disruptive to the polling process, his status as agent shall be revoked.

BALLOT COUNTING PROCEDURE

1. The candidate who receives the highest valid votes for the position shall be declared the winner.
2. After the documentation of the results, all agents shall be required to sign the results. However, refusal by any agent to append signature will not invalidate such result.

ANNOUNCING THE RESULTS

1. The winner shall be pronounced through an announcement by the Chairman upon completion of the counting procedure and signing of the results.
2. The candidates duly elected shall be issued certificate of return. 

ANY SITUATION NOT CAPTURED IN THIS PUBLICATION SHALL BE TREATED AT THE DISCRETION OF THE ELECTORAL COMMITTEE
