The Edo state government had announced its plans to abandon the junior, senior secondary schools system of education currently being practiced in the state more than 20 years after it was adopted. In the new plan, junior secondary schools will be separated from senior secondary schools.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Joan Osa-Oviawe, at a one-day workshop organized to engage stakeholders drawn from primary and secondary schools, tertiary institutions, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), said the state will revert to using the basic, lower basic, and upper basic secondary school system.
In his address, the commissioner told the participants that the new schooling system will start from Idogbo Secondary School, in the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area (LGA) of the State, and will commence by the next academic year (September 2022).
