Plans are in motion for the upgrade of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo state to a conventional university following the approval of a bill by the State Executive Council for the renaming of the university.
The Oyo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo, made the disclosure during a news conference at the end of the weekly State Executive Council meeting on Tuesday, February 8.
The new bill which is to be sent to the State House of Assembly for consideration, if passed seeks for the conversion of the state-owned institution from a university of technology to a conventional university, and to be renamed, Ladoke Akintola University.
According to Oyewo, the bill will allow the institution to be able to offer courses in Social Sciences, Humanities, Education, Law, Management Studies, among others. He added that it will also pave the way for the management of the institution to establish its own pension scheme with the backing of the law.
