Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri (FPNO) Launches Occupational Safety and Health Association.

History was made on 28th July, 2022 at the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, when the Rector of the institution launched the much-sought-after Occupational Safety and Health Association at the institution.


The polytechnic had earlier signed a memorandum of understanding with the Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA), United Kingdom, which also made the institution a Centre of Excellence for the running of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Programmes that are internationally certified.

Speaking at the launch, the Rector represented by the Deputy Rector (Academic), C.C. Onyemenonu, expressed immense joy at the monumental collaboration between the Federal Polytechnic Nekede and the Occupational Safety and Health Association of the United Kingdom, adding that it was a watershed in the history of the polytechnic. He expressed commitment to the training of requisite manpower on occupational safety, maintaining that the management of the institution takes issues about safety very seriously.

According to the Centre Coordinator and Director of Linkages and Interventions, Dr. A.C. Madu,  the OSHA UK HSE Programmes to be run at the polytechnic may include: Fire and Safety Prevention Course, Environmental Impact Assessment Course, Hazard and Identification and Control Course, OSH Professional Programme, OSH Security and Safety Programme, OSH Oil and Gas Programme, among others.

The Coordinator also stated that all the courses are locally and internationally recognized, adding that holders of the certificates stand a good chance of gaining quick employment and visas abroad.

The flag-off ceremony was preceded with a colorful road-show where members of the association trooped out in their large numbers to announce the formal launch of the Programme at the polytechnic reputed for progressive attainments.
