In a bid to improve access to and quality of health services for members staff and students of the Lagos State University, Epe Campus, the management of Lagos State University and Epe General Hospital (EPEGH), has, on Tuesday, 27th September, 2022, signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
The MoU signing was led by the Vice Chancellor, LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, and the Medical Director, EPEGH, Dr. Oluseyi Adesola, at the Conference Room of the Vice Chancellor on the university's main campus, Ojo.
According to the terms of the agreement, while LASU Health Centre shall serve as the primary health care provider, the EPEGH shall serve as secondary health provider to handle medical emergencies referred to them by the primary health provider.
Under the arrangement, the university shall encourage members of staff and students on the Epe campus to voluntarily donate blood from time to time at the EGH while being able to get quality medical services, including blood transfusion, at subsidized rates. The partnership was facilitated by the LASU Directorate of Advancement (LASUDA).
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olatunji-Bello, mni, while speaking at the brief ceremony, expressed her appreciation to the management of EGH for making the partnership a reality, noting that the hospital would go a long way to complement the efforts of LASU Health Centre to take care of medical emergencies that the centre cannot handle. She thanked the hospital's MD, Dr. Adesola, for supporting LASUDA at her Medical Outreach at Epe while also pouring accolades on the director, LASUDA, Prof. Okubeno-Dipeolu. She praised her for her efforts at giving LASU a positive image throughout the state through the LASU Health Outreach while attracting various projects and donations to the university within the short period of her appointment.
Dr. Oluseyi, in his remarks, assured that the EPEGH has the capacity to adequately serve the campus and expressed his enthusiasm that the partnership would be a win-win one for the institutions.
Prof. Okubeno-Dipeolu, director of LASUDA in her remarks, was full of appreciation to the leaders of the two institutions for their commitment to the partnership and said that the initiative was part of the objectives of LASUDA to support academic, health related efforts, research and service delivery in the university.
The MoU signing ceremony had in attendance members of the university management, and heads of relevant offices and directorates in the university main and Epe Campuses, including the Health Centre, Internal Audit, LASUDA, University Registry, Epe, Legal Unit, Vice Chancellor's Office, Centre for Information Press and Public Relations (CIPPR), amongst others.
The Epe Campus houses three faculties- Faculty of Engineering, School of Agriculture and the newly established Faculty of Environmental Sciences.
