The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has restored the accreditation status of the Abia State Polytechnic, following an initial ban placed on the institution over the none payment of salary arrears of the institution workers.
The board, in a letter, addressed to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) stated that it has decided to conditionally restore the accreditation status of the Polytechnic, after some positive development on the part of the state government.
According to the letter, the decision to restore the accreditation is hinged on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the state Government and Staff Unions of the Polytechnic where it was agreed that the government will release the sum of Four hundred and Fifty Million naira (N450,000,000.00) for the payment of four months’ salary within fourteen days from the date of the agreement.
It was also agreed that subsequently, Ninety Million (N90,000,000.00) will be released on a monthly basis for the payment of staff salary.
