Lagos State University (LASU) and University Of Pittsburgh Seal Partnership On Mac Centre, Research, Other Areas Of Mutual Interest.

Nigeria's best state University, Lagos State University on Thursday, 6th October, 2022 formally sealed a partnership with American University, University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) on the commencement of a Manufacturing Assistance Centre (MAC) and other areas of education and research. The partnership was sealed at a signing ceremony held at the Conference Room of the Lagos State University Vice Chancellor at the main campus of the institution, in Ojo, Lagos, Nigeria.

One of the products of the partnership is the Manufacturing Assistance Centre (MAC), a centre equipped to train engineering students and graduates in various skills to contribute to the manufacturing industry in Nigeria. The facility, which is currently under construction at the Epe Campus of the University, was toured by the management of LASU, officials of the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria, funders of the project, and the Lagos State Government on Wednesday, 5th October, 2022.

Apart from the MAC, the partnership between LASU and Pitt covers areas of research project in fields of mutual interest, exchange of academic publications and reports, sharing of innovative teaching methods and course designs, partnership to organise symposia, workshops and conferences, opportunity for students and faculty development and exchange, amongst others.

The Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, noted during the ceremony that the partnership will have long term positive effects on communities in and around Lagos and expressed enthusiasm that the partnership would last for a long time.

The MAC Centre project facilitator, Mr. Adeola Adetunji; Head of African Studies, Pitt, Dr. Catherine Kovevola; head of the MAC centre at Pitt, Prof. Bopaya Bidanda and Project Coordinator, Mr. Yemi Osilaja were at the meeting to represent their respective institutions while the LASU VC was joined by members of the university management and the legal team.

The partnership will last for a period of five years in the first instance.
