Available Programmes
The following are the programmes available:
1. Postgraduate Diploma in Theology (P.G.D.T.H)
2. Master of Divinity (M. Div.) degree
3. Master of Arts in Theological Studies(M.A.T.S) degree
4. Master of Theology (M. Th) degree
5. Doctor of Ministry (D. Min) degree.
In its Postgraduate programmes, the College shows its awareness and sensitiveness to the roles expected of the Church in the world. The Church in Nigeria, in particular, has been a major factor shaping the lives of individuals and affecting the stability of the country. The College is committed to respect for and critical engagement with different scholarly opinions and traditions. It aims at educating side-by-side people of different denominations without compromising the evangelical stance of the United Missionary Church of Africa.
Philosophy of Postgraduate Programmes
The philosophy of postgraduate programmes is to train and develop Christian Clergies/scholars who will be concerned with the critical study of theological perspectives, the religious and cultural life in all its facets in Africa. Emphasis is placed on those Christian traditions which have the greatest importance in the history of the Christian Church with their ethical demands. The emerging scholars will be trained to develop the ability to exegete biblical texts, understand, analyze and critically interpret various scholars’ arguments and other works related to the field of study in order to have the creative wherewithal to make an independent position on the subject matter (thesis).Objectives of the Programmes:
1. To deepen the candidate’s critical and analytical understanding of the religious and cultural traditions of mankind with special reference to the African context;2. To encourage an in-depth study of specific areas within the subject with a view to pursuing specialized research works;
3. To produce graduates familiar with the methodological and theoretical developments in the relevant fields Theological Studies who will be able to apply their knowledge to the church, their environment and also make their own contributions to universal scholarship;
4. To help students to develop independent thought, critical judgement and tolerance in the field of theological studies with a view to achieve greater understanding;
5. To promote the students’ careers in Church Ministries, teaching, administration, etc;
6. To enable the students to have thorough understanding of tenets Christianity.
Admission Requirements
a. Postgraduate Diploma In Theology (PGDTH)
ObjectivesThe Postgraduate Diploma in Theology (PGDTH) is designed to make up for the deficiencies of holders of a weak B.Th. degree. Holders of degrees and Higher National Diploma (HND) from recognized institutions in other disciplines that are interested in Theological education will also benefit from the programme.
Entry Requirements:
Admission shall be opened to:
(i) holders of BA degree in Theology/Religious Studies with a third class or pass;
(ii) holders of Higher National Diploma or degree in Arts, Social Sciences or Education may be considered for admission by the faculty;
(iii) holders of higher degrees in other fields from recognized institutions e.g. M.A.; MSc.; PhD, etc.
(iv) 5 O/L credits including English Language at a sitting and six at two sittings.
(v) Three referees’ reports. One from the candidate’s presiding Pastor.
(vi) An approved philosophy of Christian ministry.
(vii) Pass College’s interview.
Mode of Study and Duration:
The period of study for the PGDTH programme shall be a minimum of three (3) Semesters and a maximum of five (5) Semesters for full-time, and minimum of three (3) contacts and a maximum of six (5) contacts for part-time. Full-time mode of study can be offered only to candidates who satisfy the Postgraduate School that they are not in employment or that they have been released by their employers to undertake full-time studies.
Grading:
The Diploma shall be awarded with the following grading system after calculating the weighted average:
70-100 = A – Distinction
60-69 = B – Credit
55-59 = C – Merit
50-54 = D – Pass
0-49 = F – Fail
Eligibility for the Award of the Diploma:
For the award of the PGDTH;
(i) Candidates must have passed a minimum of 65 units and a maximum of 70 units in prescribed postgraduate courses;
(ii) A Research Project of 6 units shall be done in addition to the units of course works in (i) above.
b. Master of Divinity
ObjectivesThe Master of Divinity (M. Div.) is designed for holders of secular degrees and Higher National Diploma (HND) from recognized institutions in other disciplines that are interested in Theological education.
Entry Requirements:
Admission shall be opened to:
(i) A minimum of a non-theological degree from a recognized institution with not lower than Second Class lower.;
(ii) holders of Higher National Diploma or degree in Arts, Social Sciences or Education may be considered for admission by the faculty;
(iii) holders of higher degrees in other fields from recognized/accredited institutions e.g. M.A.; MSc.; PhD, etc.
(iv) 5 O/L credits including English Language at a sitting and six at two sittings.
(v) Three referees’ reports. One from the candidate’s presiding Pastor.
(vi) An approved philosophy of Christian ministry.
(vii) Pass College’s interview.

Div programme shall be a minimum of four (4) Semesters and a maximum of six (6) Semesters for full-time, and minimum of four (4) contacts and a maximum of six (6) contacts for part-time. Full-time mode of study can be offered only to candidates who satisfy the Postgraduate School that they are not in employment or that they have been released by their employers to undertake full-time studies.

1. Candidates must have passed a minimum of 90 units and a maximum of 96 units in prescribed postgraduate courses with a minimum GPA of 50% ;
2. Successful completion of a Thesis and defence with a minimum grade of 50%
3. Complete programme of studies within 5 years. Failure to complete in five years requires an application for extension for another one year.

c. Master of Arts in Theological Studies
This programme is designed for candidates with a theological degree (BTh, BA in Religious Studies or M. Div.).Admission Requirements:
1. A minimum of a first degree in Theology not lower than second Class Lower from a recognized/accredited institution.
2. Holders of Postgraduate Diploma in Theology/Religious Studies with credit and above shall also be eligible for admission into the M.A.T.S. programme.
3. 5 O/L credits including English Language at one sitting or 6 at not more than two sittings.
Candidates with not less than 3 O/L credits should have Diploma in Theology or its equivalent
from a recognized theological/higher educational institution.
4. An acceptable philosophy of Christian ministry.
5. Three referees’ reports. One from the candidate’s presiding pastor
6. Pass college’s interview.
i. Mode of Study and Duration:
The period of study for the M.A.T.S. programme shall be a minimum of three (3) Contacts and a maximum of six (6) Contacts for part-time. Part-time mode of study can be offered only to candidates who satisfy the School of Postgraduate Studies that they are not in employment or that they have been released by their employers to undertake full-time studies.
ii. Workload:
(i) To be awarded the M.A. degree, a student must have taken and passed the prescribed number of courses (including all compulsory and required courses) totalling a minimum of 33 or a maximum of 36 units as follows:
Courses – 39 units (minimum) 45 units (maximum)
Dissertation – 6
(ii) Candidates may be required to offer courses in other Departments of the Faculty as deemed necessary.
(iii) All candidates shall be expected to meet any necessary language requirements in the field of their specialization.
Graduation Requirements:
1. Complete minimum of 45 credit hours with a minimum GPA of 50%
2. Successful completion of a Thesis and defence with a minimum grade of 50%
3. Complete programme of studies within 3 years. Failure to complete in three years requires
an application for extension for another one year.
4. Evidence of Christian maturity
Specialization: Specializations are offered in the following areas:
i) Old Testament
ii) New Testament
iii) Christian Education
iv) Missions
v) Pastoral Studies
vi) Church History
vii) Systematic Theology
Note that some courses are required of all, while others are compulsory for the specialization.
Each specialization has at least two compulsory courses each year, two required and one elective (5 total). The student must take 15 courses of about 45 units in all for the three contact academic sessions.
d. Masters In Theology
This programme is designed for candidates with a theological degree (BTh, BA in Religious Studies or PGDTh).Admission Requirements:
1. A minimum of a first degree in Theology from a recognized/accredited theological institution with not lower than Second Class Lower.
2. 5 O/L credits including English Language at one sitting or 6 O/Level credits at not more than two sittings.
3. An acceptable philosophy of Christian ministry.
4. Three referees’ reports. One from the candidate’s presiding Pastor
5. Pass college interview.
Graduation Requirements
1. Complete minimum of 45 credit hours with a minimum GPA of 50%
2. Successful completion of a Thesis and defense with a minimum grade of 50%
3. Complete programme of studies within 18 months not more than 2 ½ years.
4. Evidence of Christian maturity.
e. Biblical Studies
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:For Biblical Studies, all prospective students are expected to have prior study in at least one of the two main biblical languages (Hebrew, Greek), and the core requirements in the programme include further courses in biblical and/or cognate languages. Normally, applicants will be expected to have completed a second-level course in biblical Hebrew or Greek, or demonstrate comparable reading ability (eg through a reading test to be sat prior to matriculation). Applicants may be admitted, however, on the basis of a very strong showing in a first-level course in either language, in which case one of their required courses will be either Advanced Hebrew or Advanced New Testament Greek.
f. Systemic Theology (MST)
COURSE REQUIREMENTSFor prospective students in Systematic Theology; in addition to the core requirements for admission into the programme, candidates in this department must have done Systematic Theology both I & II, The Church in the Apostolic Age or Church History, History and Doctrine of the early church and Contemporary Christian Theology as further requirements for admission into this department.
g. Church History (MCS)
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Prospective students for Church History, in addition to the core requirements are expected to have taken The Church in the Apostolic Age or Church History, History of Christianity in Africa, History and Doctrines of the Early Church and The Reformation which must be passed in not less than 55%.
Missions (MEM)
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Prospective candidate must be a practicing Pastor, Missionary or an Evangelist in a Church or Ministry. It is expected that the prospective candidate must have taken courses such as History of Missions, Theology of Missions, Missionary methods, Language Learning and Translation, Basic Medical Care and Church Planting and Growth which must be passed at not less than 55%.
Pastoral Studies (MPS)
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
For Pastoral Studies, all prospective students are expected to be practicing Pastors or Associate Pastors of a Church.
In addition to the core requirements for admission into this programme, candidates are expected to have done at least 6 units course in the field which must include Pastorla Theology and Church Admin, Christian Worship (Liturgy) and Psychology of Religion/ Homiletics I & II. Each of which must be passed at not less than 55%.
Christian Education (MED)
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
As prospective candidates are expected to have done some basic courses in Education such as principles and methods of Education, Teaching Practice, Religious Education of Children/youth/Adullts, Philosophy of Christian Education.
Doctor of Ministry Programme (D.Min)
Admission Requirements
a. Masters of Arts in Theological Studies or Masters of Theology, both from a accredited institution.
For Candidates with M.Div.
b. Candidates must make-up all deficiencies up to the level of MATS/MTh. Candidates will not be matriculated until all deficiencies have been rectified.
c. Candidates must have sufficient knowledge of biblical languages, depending on areas of specialization.
d. A minimum of five years’ experience of full time ministry work.
e. Candidates must be involved in full-time ministry work during the studies for the Degree.
f. Candidates must pass the College’s interview which includes reading proficiency test of Greek and Hebrew.
g. Three referees’ reports, one of which must be from the candidates Denominational head.
h. Candidates must submit a written philosophy of his ministry.
Graduation Requirements
a. Complete minimum of 50 hours (MATS, M.Th) and 60 hours (M.Div) of course work spinning seven contact periods with a minimum CGPA of 60%.
b. At least five seminars of two units, each spread to each area of the course work.
c. Demonstrate an integration of studies and ministry.
d. Presentation of Doctor of Ministry Dissertation under the guidance of faculty supervisor/s. Candidates are attached to supervisor/s after the 3rd contact of course work and should work till the 4th year on the dissertation.
e. Candidates must pass the proposal, internal and external defense of thesis at grade 60%.
f. Minimum grade for each course must be at grade 60%.
g. Each candidate is required to take a comprehensive examination in his area of specialization after his course work and to pass it before he can write his dissertation for Doctor of Ministry.
