LASU Holds Orientation for Newly Admitted Students 2022/2023
Lagos State University (LASU) Holds Orientation for all Newly Admitted Undergraduate Students, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olatunji-bello, Charges New Students on Discipline, Academic Excellence at Orientation Ceremony for the 2022/2023 Academic Session.

2022/2023 ORIENTATION PROGRAMME: PROFESSOR IBIYEMI OLATUNJI-BELLO, MNI, NPOM, REITERATES HER DESIRE TO MAKE STUDENT'S WELFARE A PRIORITY OF HER ADMINISTRATION

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, has assured the newly admitted full-time degree (100-level and Direct Entry) students of her administration's agenda to make student welfare a top priority.


In her words...." Your welfare is top on our priority as we will ensure that the University environment remains conducive for your learning", she affirmed.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello made this known while delivering her address at the Orientation Programme organized by the Student's Affairs Division for newly admitted full-time students for the 2022/2023 academic session on Tuesday, 6th June 2023, at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.

The programme aimed at providing students with relevant information about the university's academic, social, and administrative structure as well as the various resources available to them during their academic journey at the university saw the professor of Physiology defy the heavy downpour to grace the occasion to the warm welcome of the highly elated freshers who were in their thousands.

While addressing the students she said "We have put in place adequate security measures to ensure your security in and around the university, also we have a well-equipped university library for your use while we have ensured a steady power supply to enable those who wish to study at night do so comfortably"
As a responsible mother would, the Vice Chancellor in conclusion, counseled the students to behave decently within and outside the university environment, strive for academic excellence, resist the urge to partake in unwholesome acts, be good ambassadors of the university, and endeavor to make the student handbook their companion.

Earlier at the ceremony, the Dean, Student Affairs Division, Prof. Tajudeen Olumoko while delivering the opening remark, congratulated the new entrants for being worthy to have been admitted into the university and that the freshers should see the opportunity as an initial step towards realizing their aspirations and dreams.

"As you embark on this challenging noble path, keep in mind the significant financial, material, and emotional investment that your parents or guardians and sponsors have made. They eagerly await returns on their investment which is the success that you are expected to make of this venture", he admonished the students.

The Dean of Students further advised the freshmen to desist from associating with bad peers, inappropriate behavior, indecent dressing, use of drugs and other bad substances as students found guilty of disrupting the normal academic business of the university will be made to face maximum consequences. As students you have become ambassadors and image makers of the great citadel of knowledge and it behoves you to exhibit certain traits such as honesty, tolerance, integrity, excellence, and accountability in all affairs.

Prof. Olumoko finally urged them to engage in extracurricular activities and community services as it would aid the proper development of their intellectual abilities and make their body and mind remain healthy and alert.

The fun-filled and insightful ceremony had varieties of facilitators which include, the University Bursar, Mr. Said Babatunde Olayinka, FCA, represented by the Deputy Bursar, Mr. Olaitan Emmanuel Sosu who spoke on *"Financial Matters: Fees, Awards, and Scholarship"*; the University Librarian, Dr. Emmanuel ’Layi Adebayo represented by Dr. Hameed Okunnu, talked on *"Cultivating a Good Reading Habit in the University"*; the Director, Health Services, Dr. Nasir Ariyibi represented by Dr. Soetan Oladipupo presented a paper on *"Taking Charge of your Personal and Environmental Health"*; the Director, DICT, Prof. Toyin Enikuomehin represented by Mrs. Olubunmi Omole, talked on *"Navigating through the ICT Services in LASU.....the Do it yourself Approach"*.

Other facilitators at the Orientation Programme include Deputy Registrar and Head, Counseling and Career Centre, Dr. Joseph Ayeni; Deputy Registrar, Legal Unit, Mrs Olajumoke O. Boyejo represented by Mr. Adewunmi Olori; and the Chief Security Coordinator, CSP Oluwole Ojo (rtd.) represented by Mr. Babatunde Edu.

The highly charged auditorium had in attendance members of the University Management, Deans of Faculties, Deputy Registrars, members of staff of Students' Affairs Division, Counseling and Career Centre, University Multimedia, and Centre for Information and Public Relations amongst others.
The Orientation Programme ends on Wednesday,7th July 2023, while this set of students are to be matriculated on Tuesday, 13th June 2023.
