2. Requirements for Appointment of Academic Staff to Various Ranks
Appointment to all academic positions must be predicated on the fact that the candidate must have obtained an honours degree not below Second Class Lower Division (except for Graduate Assistant position which must be Second Class Upper Division), and from a recognized University (or a higher institution of equivalent status). Such appointments must exclude honours degrees obtained through correspondence or extra-mural studies. All candidates must meet the minimum qualifications set out before appointment to the respective ranks indicated below:


a. Appointment of Graduate Assistant
• NYSC Discharged Certificate/Exemption Certificate.
• Bachelor’s Degree (of the Benue State University) or of any other recognized University at performance level not below Second Class, Upper Division.
• Must have graduated not more than five (5) years ago


b. Appointment of Assistant Lecturer
• Master’s Degree of the Benue State University or of any other recognized University.
• Holders of Bachelor of Laws Degree with at least Second Class, Lower Division plus B.L. and NYSC Discharged Certificate/Exemption Certificate.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Quantity Surveying; and an appropriate professional registration and NYSC Discharged Certificate/Exemption Certificate. 


c. Appointment of Lecturer II
• Must have been Assistant Lecturer in the University for three years or its equivalent rank in a recognized higher institution or Research Institute.
• Earned PhD from recognized University.
• Candidates with Master degree must also have evidence of four (4) publications in reputable learned journals plus registration with relevant professional bodies where applicable.
• Degree in Accountancy plus recognized Professional Qualifications in Accountancy. 


d. Appointment of Lecturer I
• A minimum of three (3) years cognate teaching experience as Lecturer II at University level plus evidence of eight (8) publications in reputable learned journals.
• A PhD is an added advantage.
• M.Sc. holders with relevant professional qualifications like ARCON, CORN, COREN, TOPREC, COPS plus evidence of publications in reputable learned journals
• Holders of ICAN, ANAN or equivalent professional qualification with Master’s Degree, plus evidence of publications in reputable learned journals


e. Appointment of Senior Lecturer
i. A minimum of three (3) years cognate teaching experience as lecturer I at university level plus PhD and evidence of publications in reputable local, national and international learned (twelve) journal plus registration with relevant professional bodies where applicable.
ii. Productive research activity with the achievement of the status of an acknowledged authority in area of specialization.
iii. Dissemination of knowledge through academic and professional activities i.e. teaching quality and quantity.
iv. Postgraduate supervision at PhD (or equivalent) level.
 

Note:
i. Candidates applying for positions in Department of Languages and linguistics who have specialization in Spanish will have an added advantage.
ii. Candidates applying for positions in Department of Vocational and Technical Education who have specialization in Food Security and Control of Postharvest Losses will have an added advantage.
iii. Candidates applying for positions in Department of Educational Foundations who have specialization in Pre Primary/Primary Education, Integrated Science, Special Education will have an added advantage.
iv. Candidates applying for positions in the Department of Biological Sciences who have specialization in Microbiology, Plant Science and Biotechnology will have an added advantage.
v. Candidates applying for positions in the Department of Chemistry who have specialization in Industrial Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Environmental Management and Toxicology will have an added advantage.
vi. Candidates applying for positions in the Department of Physics who have specialization in Geophysics, Atmospheric Physics, Material Science, Renewable Energy and Food Physics will have an added advantage.
vii. Candidates applying for positions in Department of ccounting who have specialization in Taxation, Auditing and financial reporting will have an added advantage.
viii. Candidates applying for positions in Department of Business Administration who have specialization in Managerial Finance and Human Resource management will have an added advantage.
ix. Candidates applying for positions in Department of Psychology who have specialization in Experimental and Development Psychology will have an added advantage.
