LASU Official Dress Code: Defaulters will be Sanction
Lagos State University (LASU) to Sanction Students in the Habit of Violating the University Dress Code Rules and Regulations [What Constitutes Indecent Dressing In Lagos State University].

The management of the  Lagos State University (LASU)  has observed that some students are in the habit of violating the University Rules and Regulations on what constitutes indecent dressing on campus and these acts by the students are being tolerated by members of Staff (Teaching and Non- Teaching)


In view of this, the students are hereby reminded of what constitutes indecent dressing while on the University Campuses, Ojo, Ikeja, Epe and Badagry. The students are also enjoined to beware of the consequences of their activities as the full enforcement of the University rule has commenced.

The following constitute inappropriate modes of dressing by students which shall attract sanctions from the University:

  1. Wearing transparent dresses, mini and skimpy skirts/dresses, and other clothes revealing sensitive parts of the body.
  2. Wearing tattered, dirty jeans with holes or obscene subliminal messages.
  3. Wearing “baggy”, “saggy”, “yansh,”“ass level” and over length trousers.
  4. Wearing tight fitting apparels that reveal body shape and contours of the body.
  5. Wearing T-Shirt and Tops with obscene, obnoxious or seductive inscription.
  6. Wearing of loose tie, folding, holding and pocketing of tie.
  7. Wearing shirts without buttons, improperly buttoned, rolling of sleeves or flying collar.
  8. Wearing of face Caps or complete covering of face.
  9. Piercing of body and tattooing.
  10. Wearing of ear rings by male students.
  11. Wearing of nose ring, very big dropping ear rings and necklaces by female students.
  12. Wearing of distractive knocking shoes like stiletto heels to lecture rooms and the Library is frowned at and students may be denied admittance to such places.
  13. Plaiting, weaving, bonding of hair by male students.
  14. Knickers, tight shorts and slacks are allowed only for sports.
  15. Wearing of slippers is not allowed.
  16. Wearing of lousy, unkempt, extremely bogus hair or artificial hair.
  17. I am aware that where necessitated by circumstances security agencies can be authorized by the University to do a background check on me.
  18. I am aware that even after I have been awarded a certificate upon graduation from the University, the University Senate has the right to withdraw my certificate for reason of misconduct, where such misconduct will bring the name of the University into disrepute. Or, where it is discovered that such certificate was obtained by fraud, concealment or misrepresentation of certain facts which if had been to the knowledge of the University, the University would not have issued or awarded the certificate.


Please NOTE that any student found violating any of the rules would be made to face the students’ Disciplinary Committee.

Latest Update: LASU Reiterates its Zero Tolerance for Indecent Dressing

The management of the Lagos State University (LASU) has barred students of the institution from wearing miniskirts, face caps, rolled sleeves, and other attires deemed ''indecent'' while on campus. This was contained in a statement signed by the institution's vice-chancellor Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello on Monday, January 23.

Male students were barred from wearing earrings and necklaces, including plaiting, weaving, or bonding of hair, while female students were cautioned not to wear, “lousy, unkempt, extremely bogus hair or colored artificial hair, brightly tinted hair/eyelashes/brown, fixing of long eyelashes, nails, and artificial dreadlock.

Ibiyemi ordered lecturers to begin denying access to lecture halls to any student with inappropriate clothing. Provosts, deans, department heads, and faculty officers were also advised to ensure that students dress appropriately within their respective faculties.

The statement partly reads;

    “Students are also prohibited from wearing tattered and dirty jeans with holes or obscene subliminal messages; shirts without buttons; shirts that are improperly buttoned; rolling of sleeves or flying collar; and wearing of face caps or complete face covering with very dark glasses.

    Wearing of tight fitting apparels; wearing clothes that reveal sensitive parts of the body; wearing shirts and tops with obscene, obnoxious or seductive inscription; wearing of face caps or complete covering of face (very dark glasses), wearing “baggy, saggy or ass level clothes and any other form of indecent trousers and piercing of body and tattooing.”

The school authorities warned that any student found violating the dress code in the premises would be sanctioned accordingly..
