IAUE Elects New Students Union Government Executives for 2018/2019

Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, IAUE Elects New Students Union Government, SUG Executives, Vice Chancellor Urges them to take Interest in Academics.

The Vice-Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele has charged the newly elected Students Union Government Executives for the 2018/2019 academic session to take interest in academics and study hard to maintain the current trend of first class and second class upper division being witnessed by the University.

He gave the charge during the swearing in of the SUG Executives Members on Wednesday March 6, 2019 at the University auditorium.

The Vice-Chancellor while welcoming them on board, expressed delight that the University Administration has a brand new exco to work with in planning for the growth and development of the institution.

He encouraged them to take advantage of his open door policy and to intimate him of whatever problems that they encounter so that solutions that can sought for. He informed them that discussing and settling matters amicably should be their positions at all times instead of carrying placards.

Professor Ndimele also hinted that collection and accessment of their union dues has been made easier for them with the University automated transfer system adding that the days of coming to the office of the Vice-Chancellor or the Bursar to ask for union dues is long over.

The Registrar Mrs. Hope Kue-Ikoro also enjoined the new exco to abide by the rules and regulations guiding the University and to operate within the laws.

Earlier, the Head Legal Unit and Deputy Registrar, Barrister Chris Didia while administering the oath of office reminded the SUG Executive Members that their duty is to serve and not to arrogate powers to themselves. The 2018/2019 SUG Executives swore to discharge their duties to the best of their abilities and in accordance with the SUG Constitution and always in the interest, integrity and well-being of the Union.

They also swore not to allow their personal interest to influence their official decisions and to strive in all circumstances to do right to all manner of people according to the law and without fear or favour.

The Dean, Student Affairs, Dr. Ugochukwu Agi expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for support given to the students and the Unit and especially for the first ever electronic based SUG election in the history of the University.

In his address, the SUG President elect Comrade Mmah Dominic Dumbari assured all students that their interests, yearnings and aspirations will be paramount even as they strive to take student unionism to greater heights.

He also expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and his team for creating an enabling environment and providing the necessary logistics that heralded the smooth transition as well as for their nonpartisan disposition in ensuring that the election held despite initial bottlenecks.
