Nursing & Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) Prohibition / Revocation of Weeding Examination in Nursing and Midwifery Training Institutions in Nigeria.
The Nursing and midwifery council of Nigeria has sent a stern warning to Schools and colleges of Nursing that admits nursing students beyond their accredited capacity and weed them out after 3 months or 6 months Examination referred to as PTS or Wedding examination.Subsequently, the board of the nursing and midwifery council of Nigeria at it's 51st general meeting held from 18th-19th December 2019 has approved the prohibition of any form of weeding examination in any approved Nursing and midwifery training institution in Nigeria with immediate effect.
Henceforth, institutions engaging themselves in weeding and illegal examination shall be liable to sanction through a withdrawal of their accreditation status.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has received a petition which was investigated and confirmed that nursing and midwifery training institutions in most states indulge in admission of students beyond the approved admission quota and consequently weed off numerous students from the school at the end of three months through illegal examinations.
It is well known that the act of 'weeding examination' is becoming a norm in nursing and midwifery training institutions in Nigeria and cannot be allowed to continue. Please note that the only acceptable examination in the training curriculum is 'semester examination'.
Subsequently, the Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) at its 51st General Meeting held from 18th to 19th December, 2019 has approved the prohibition of any form of weeding examination in nursing and midwifery training institutions in Nigeria with immediate effect from 23rd December, 2019.
Henceforth, institutions engaging themselves in weeding/illegal examination shall be liable to sanction through withdrawal of their accreditation status.
Accordingly, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria disassociates itself from weeding examinations and consequences that may arise from it shall be applied strictly.
