Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), PortHarcourt Cautions Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) - IAUE Chapter Against Embarking on Nationwide Strike as their Salaries and Entitlements have been Paid up to Date by the Government.
The attention of the University Administration has been drawn to a supposed industrial action by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, PortHarcourt with effect from March 11, 2020.In the light of the above, the Vice-Chancellor has directed that the attention of all teaching staff be drawn to a directive by the Visitors of the University, His Excellency, Chief (Barrister) Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, GSSRS, POS Africa in a letter of August 20, 2019 that Union Leaders and Members be cautioned against participation in strike actions called by their respective national bodies, whereas all their salaries and entitlements have been paid up to date.
The directive further stated that "The Rivers State Government having duly paid her workers frowns seriously at such unjustifiable and irresponsible action, and categorically states that any such unjustifiable strike action by any Union of any State-owned institution shall attract appropriate punitive measures".
By this notice all Dean of Facilities and Heads of Department are directed by the Vice-Chancellor to take attendance of Lecturers who report for duties and submit same to the Vice-Chancellor to enable him forward proper record to the appropriate quarters.
All Deans and Heads of Department are to ensure compliance please.
