MOUAU Online Lectures On Zoom & Canvas LMS Platform Notice

COVID-19: Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUAU) Notice to Students on Online Lectures via the Use of Zoom and Canvas LMS Platforms.

Latest Update:
We observed that most students doesn't care to read and understand details.
Firstly the University management through the DICT announced that the school is seriously considering embarking on E learning hence introduced zoom and created a telegram group for support which some of you are there.
We shared a link for the tutorial on the use of the zoom application.
Then it started trending that MOUAU has announced her resumption date and that they are starting the e-learning. The post obviously made by bloggers generated issues as the University cannot start except when approved by Fed. Ministry of Education. To this regard the management made a circular debunking the news already viral that they have announced resumption date.
Furthermore the management through DICT considered another learning management system CANVAS and shared the tutorial link so that students can watch and get abrased with the software environmental incase it is initiated .
Lets make some facts clear.
The E-learning process is highly overrated by some students .It is a learning system that is already being practised.
How many departments of this institution does not have a whatsapp page were information is circulated to students.
If a lecturer drops a soft copy of his lecture hand out of maybe about 20kb and you download and read from your home, do your assignment and submit back to him, is that not elearning.
Or is it now that we introduced zoom so that you can join a lecture from any location and watch the lecturer deliver his/her lecture at any location of choice.

The problem that most students has is misunderstanding.
The concept of the E learning is to help students, so that the effects of the pandemic might not be so much on them. So that a student can graduate as at almost when due.
Several concerns has been gotten from students and all are being put in consideration.
Note. The welfare and well being of the students of MOUAU is of great concern to the management.
This page @officialmouau is and will continue to be the official social media handle of the university, you can check it out from the University official website www.mouau.edu.ng
Finally the only thing constant in life is CHANGE. Any one who cannot adjust and move with the trend becomes obsolete. Open up your mind to trend in technology, everything is going online now.
In addition to the ZOOM App and due to the dynamics of our learning system here in Nigeria...the DICT would like to introduce you another E-learning application called CANVAS

Sequel to the Covid -19 pandemic and the directive from the Federal Ministry of Education for Universities to resume academic activities with the use of appropriate E- learning platforms; the management of the University have approved the use of this methodology for her academic activities.

The revolutionary development in the field of information technology and communication (ICT) has brought about a fundamental and major shift in the field of education. Owing to the COVID-19 Pandemic ravaging the world, conventional education is no longer perceived as the most ideal education system.

Distance education, an educational pedagogy which dates long back, is gaining wider recognition, owing to both the flexibility associated with it, and also the growing use of ICT.

Distance-learning programs have become even more popular over the last few years, as the Internet has developed into a reliable channel of learning. Though we have seen the emergence of many Open Universities, at the same time, there has also been the creation of distance education centers at dual mode institutions.

Having said the above, the Learning Management System (LMS) or E-learning platforms, are specialized online platforms that support E-learning; that is, online learning and training delivery through content and communication sharing.

REASONS TO EMBRACE THE E-LEARNING PATH

1. Flexibility: Online training courses can be taken at the convenience of both the student and lecturer. This ensures flexibility in terms of time and effort

2. Easy On the Pocket: Traditional course trainings require lots of planning, physical copies of materials, transportation and logistics. This results in a higher cost to benefit ratio. Virtual learning environment will cut cost, reduce logistics and encourage accountability.

3. Online Support: Online course trainers and lecturers can be mailed and interacted with, when participants have any questions needed for professional development.

4. Easy Of Accessibility: Downloadable online notes, online support, online interaction, training videos that can be replayed, and assessments/quizzes that can be taken anytime during the course to help professionals learn better and faster.

Consequent upon this, students and lecturers are encouraged to prepare themselves for this new teaching and learning method.

Also, students are required to join the MOUAU students' E Learning support group on Telegram by clicking the link below. https://t.me/joinchat/Prp0MhhzAW8ZD2PhU9BlxQ.

Every student should update their profile data on the portal especially their current functional email address

All students are to download Zoom App using this link https://zoom.us/download or from Google or Apple store and familiarize themselves with the app

Zoom is also bandwidth friendly.

Further instructions will be out soon on the MOUAU Website and other information channels.

STAY TUNE!!! STAY SAFE!!!
