Rivers State Schools 3rd Term Resumption Date 2019/2020

Rivers State Public and Private Primary and Secondary Schools First (1st), Second [2nd], Third (3rd) Term Resumption Date for 2019/2020 Academic Session.

Latest Update: The Federal Government (FG) on Monday 27th July, 2020 declared that all Secondary schools in the country should resume from 4th of August, 2020 for exit classes only.
Students will have two weeks within which to prepare for the West African Examinations (WAEC) due to start on the 17th of August, 2020.
It was agreed that the exit classes should resume immediately after the Sallah break, from the 4th of August, 2020 to enable them prepare for the WAEC examinations scheduled to commence from the 17th of August, 2020.

The Rivers State Government is yet to announce an official resumption date for third (3rd) term academic activities for 2019/2020 academic session

The attention of the Rivers State government has been drawn to some private schools that have resumed for third term for the 2019/2020 academic session and are collecting fees under the guise.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Education, Professor KANIYE EBEKU, the Ministry of Education states that; schools are yet to resume for the third term of the 2019/2020 academic session, hence fees cannot be collected for same.

The statement also said the Ministry is still consulting with the leadership of private schools and stakeholders in the public-school sector regarding the continued learning of the students and has not announced a resumption date.

The original calendar of 2019/2020 was suspended with immediate effect on the 23rd of March, 2020 following the announcement that all schools be closed down by Governor NYESOM WIKE.

The Commissioner also said every school that has asked parents to pay fees for third term has acted without authority and should forthwith withdraw all such letters to parents.

He said the Ministry is not against online support from various schools for their students, as he assured that announcement for collaborative online teachings for third term will be made in due course only after consultation with all stakeholders in the Education sector.

The Rivers State Government has also has warned that any school both public and private in the state that re-opened for the 3rd term 2019/2020 school year either in schools environment or online before it authorizes that will have its license withdrawn and prosecuted.
