Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana (NMC, Ghana) Leads Africa in Online CPDS for Nursing and Midwifery Practitioners.
In January 2020, The World Continuing Education Alliance (WCEA) in collaboration with the International Council of Nurses (ICN) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (N&MC) introduced a free Continuing Professional online Platform for Nurses and Midwives in Ghana. In WCEA’s appraisal on the first six months of implementing the free online CPD programme, it has emerged that N&MC Ghana is the leading country in Africa in terms of the number of registrants and the number of completed online courses.
According to Mr. Craig Fitzpatrick, WCEA 2020 EMEA Director, Partner of the International Council of Nurses, a total of 67,136 registrants from Ghana were recorded on the E-learning Platform and Mobile App in the first six months. Additionally, 151,513 courses have already been completed by the registrants.
This makes N&MC Ghana the leading country in Africa for the number of registrants, having doubled the numbers in Kenya and Nigeria.
Mr. Fitzpatrick noted that WCEA/ICN has added the Maternal and Neonatal Health (MNH) modules created for the USAID project by Jhpiego and is currently available on the E-learning platform. Nursing and Midwifery practitioners are therefore encouraged to start the MNH courses now.
