2026 NECO BECE Registration Form: National Examination Council (NECO) Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE) Registration Form, Eligibility, Application Guidelines, Requirements, Online Payment and Closing Date for Federal Unity Colleges, Armed Forces Secondary Schools 2026 Academic Session [NECO BECE 2026 Online and Offline Application / Registration Instructions and Guidelines].

The National Examination Council, NECO wishes to inform the general public, Schools, Parents and Teachers that the sales of form for the Basic Education Certification Examination, BECE into the Senior Secondary School for the 2026 session has commenced. Registration deadline has been slated for Wednesday 8th April, 2026.


The Basic Education Certification Examination is taken by candidates transitioning from the ninth year of the basic education class to senior secondary school. The BECE is conducted for candidates in their third year of Junior Secondary School.

While each state of the federation and the FCT conducts the BECE for its candidates, NECO conducts the BECE for Federal Unity Colleges, Armed Forces Secondary Schools and other Federal establishments operating Secondary schools. Private Secondary Schools also take part in the NECO BECE, provided they are permitted by their State Ministries of Education.

Eighteen subjects are administered at the BECE level.

A candidate is expected to sit for a maximum of ten subjects. A candidate is deemed to have passed the BECE if he/she has passes in six subjects, including English and Mathematics.

Grading System:

  • A - Distinction
  • B - Upper Credit
  • C - Lower Credit
  • P - Pass
  • F - Fail

Registration Guidelines for the NECO 2026 BECE Registration

Principals and Commandants of Secondary Schools are hereby informed that the registration procedure introduced by the Council last year is to be used for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Eligibility for Registration:

Principals/Commandants of schools are hereby informed that only candidates in their final year of Junior Secondary School (i.e. JSS 3) are eligible for registration. The 2026 NECO BECE is meant for only school-based candidates in Nigeria and overseas.

Special Notice to All Schools

  • All candidates will be issued a Unique National Learners Identification Number (NLIN) which will be used for the examination.
  • The National Identification Number (NIN) is a compulsory requirement for registration and must be provided during data entry.
  • The examination will be conducted in dual mode (Hybrid System), comprising Computer-Based Examination (CBE) and Pen and Paper Examination (PPE).

Registration Procedures

The 2026 BECE registration will be both OFFLINE and ONLINE. There is no more manual registration. The manual registration entries have been replaced with offline entries of candidates’ registration data.

The registration comprises two stages:

  • Offline and Online Registration


Access/Claim to School Portal

  • Existing schools should continue using their login details to access their portal.
  • Schools with login challenges should use the “Forget Password” or “Dispute” option.
  • New schools must claim their portal using an official school email address and phone number.
  • Schools without an official email must create one, as personal or cybercafé emails are not allowed.
  • A default password will be sent to the official email provided after successful claim.


Offline Registration

  • Schools are to uninstall the previous version of the BECE offline application from their computer systems and install the current BECE offline application
  • Schools are to make all entries of their candidates’ bio-data and biometric data completely offline, using the 2026 BECE offline application supplied in a recordable CD/DVD along with this registration guideline.
  • Ensure that candidates’ National Identification Number (NIN) is correctly captured.
  • All passport photographs must be taken in school uniform.


Candidates with Special Needs

  • Candidates with special needs should be registered like others, but their condition must be clearly indicated.
  • Categories include:
    • Low Vision
    • Complete Blindness
    • Albinism
    • Hearing Impairment
    • Autism (requires official notification to NECO)


Offline Validation

  • After successful offline registration, schools are to validate their candidates’ data before uploading registration details online.
  • Validation period: Monday 9th February, 2026
  • The Council is not liable for registration errors. All corrections must be done during the validation process before uploading the registration online.
  • NECO BECE Correction of Name is limited to results of years 2000 to 2018. From 2019 onwards, corrections must be done during offline validation.
  • Schools should print photocards and allow candidates to confirm their details.
  • Validation list must be signed by all candidates and submitted to the State Office.
  • All corrections must be done offline before upload; duplication of registration is not allowed.


Penalty for Non-Validation

  • Corrections after upload will be treated as Non-Validation.
  • A penalty of ₦10,000 per candidate applies.
  • Only one of either Name or Passport Photograph can be corrected.
  • Other corrections (DOB, Gender, Subjects, State, LGA) can still be made before the examination.


School Activation for Payment

  • Each school must be activated by their State Coordinator before payment.
  • Required documents include:
    • Signed Validation List
    • Candidates’ signed Photocards
    • Subject Analysis
  • Centre activation begins Monday 9th February, 2026.


Payment and Upload

Once a school is activated, they can log in to www.neco.gov.ng to make payments and proceed with the online upload process.

Payment Procedure

  • All payments should strictly be made through the NECO portal. Upon successful payment, a registration quota is allocated according to the amount paid into the NECO TSA. Schools should ensure all payments are completed before attempting to upload candidates.
  • Payment made after registration closes will not be entertained or refunded.
  • Payment must be verified using the Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR).
  • Initial installment should cover at least 20 candidates to avoid unviable centre charges.


Viability of Schools

  • A school is considered viable if it registers at least 20 candidates.
  • Schools below this number must pay an Unviable Centre Fee.


Examination Fees

  • Registration fee: N13,595.00 per candidate
  • Unviable Centre fee: N15,625.00
  • Syllabus fee: N2,000.00 per copy
  • Late Registration Penalty: N5,000.00 per candidate
  • BECE Re-sit fee: N3,750.00 per subject per candidate

Note: 
i. Stamp Duty, Service and Remita charges apply.
ii. The Registration fees, once paid, are non-refundable.

Continuous Assessment Scores (CAS)

  • Schools are no longer required to upload JS3 CAS.
  • CAS will now be uploaded for JS1 and JS2 only.
  • Upload schedule:
    • 1st Term – January
    • 2nd Term – April
    • 3rd Term – August
  • Failure to comply may attract sanctions.


Online Centre Dispute

  • This allows schools to recover access to their portal.
  • Requests must be submitted through the State Office.
  • Each school can reclaim its centre once before dispute.


Registration Period and Closing Date

  • Regular registration begins: Monday 19th January, 2026
  • Regular registration closes: Wednesday 1st April, 2026.
  • Late registration closes: Thursday 2nd April to Wednesday 8th April, 2026.
  • Website closure: 11:59 pm on Wednesday 8th April, 2026.
  • The last date for submission of printed RRR Payment Receipt and the online endorsed final Validation List is Wednesday 8th April, 2026.

Procedure for Registration of BECE Resit

  • Login to your school profile using your center number, username, and password
  • Select Resit
  • Make payment through one of the available methods:
  • Card payment
  • Bank Branch
  • USSD
  • Internet Banking
  • Wallet
  • eNaira

Important Notes

  • A candidate is only registered if his/her offline entries are uploaded online to obtain a Registration Number.
  • All corrections must be done during the validation process before uploading registration data online.
  • Late registration period is between Thursday 2nd April and Wednesday 8th April, 2026, and attracts a penalty fee of N5,000 per candidate.
  • A candidate must have a photocard for identification purposes during the examination.
  • Schools should print their certificate of upload for Continuous Assessment Scores (CA3) from their school email.
