Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) Declares 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME a Milestone, Describes Oloyede as an Uncommon Transformer.
The President of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Comrade Nuhu Ogirima, has described the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) as another milestone in the history of the examination body and the country at large. Comrade Ogirima pointed out that there are many factors that contributed to this success story in the just-concluded UTME.In a chat with JAMBULLETIN, he stated that, “the pre-examination invigilation training of ad hoc/auxiliary staff and provisions of logistics that facilitated efficient discharge of responsibilities entrusted to them and contributed to the effective conduct of the exercise across the nation more than what was witnessed in the previous ones.” Continuing, the President said, “another factor that ensured this feat was the withdrawal of approval to centres adjudged either ineffective in the discharge of their responsibilities in the conduct of the UTME or were involved in activities that were inimical to the success of previous exercises”.
Mr. Ogirima noted that the swiftness with which the Board effected the arrests of people who were alleged to have indulged in multiple registration and other forms of examination malpractice further demonstrates the zero tolerance it has for any form of examination infraction
Ogirima also commended the sensitivity of the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Hon. Minister of Education to the socio-economic situation of
Nigerians which led to the considerable reduction of the cost of JAMB registration forms for Nigerians both at home and in Diaspora while appreciating the Prof. Oloyede-led administration for the massive remittances of about 20B in less than three years which made it possible for the registration fee to be reduced. In his words, he had said, “it is commonplace in Nigeria to have the cost of services rise and never come down, however, Prof. Oloyede’s prudent management of resources has made it possible for a drastic reduction in the cost of forms by the Federal Government to such an appreciable and affordable level.
This is quite unprecedented and would ever remain indelible in the history of Nigeria.” The activist described Prof. Oloyede as an uncommon transformer, anti-corruption czar and a prudent manager of human and material resources evidently seen in the unprecedented huge remittances he has made to the coffers of the Federal Government.
He stated that Prof. Oloyede has made JAMB an “institution of credible reference”. Commenting on some of the challenges noticed during the examination, Comrade Ogirima suggested more rigorous, robust screening and other accreditation mechanisms for centre approval to address the observed bottle- necks.
