Dear Parents, Principals, Teachers, Students we are happy to inform you that the 2019/2020 InterswitchSPAK Kenya Version 2.0 registration opens on Sunday 9th February 2020. 

We hereby inform you that InterswitchSPAK 2.0 Qualifying exam and registration has been deferred. Speaking about the deferment, Cherry Eromosele, the Group Chief Marketing and Communication Officer at Interswitch stated that the organisation has commenced constructive engagement with various stakeholders and partners who work with them annually on this initiative and will continue to work with them in unison as they plan towards the subsequent season of the project.

She said: “We have no doubt that the appropriate course to take as a socially responsible organization, is to defer this year’s edition of InterswitchSPAK until the dangers to public health posed by the pandemic are sufficiently mitigated.To this effect, we have formally ceased ongoing registration of candidates by schools across Kenya for the current year, following engagement with relevant concerned educational authorities and stakeholders in both countries”.


InterswitchSPAK is an annual search across high schools (public and private in Kenya for only Form 3 students between the ages of 14-17 years. It is introduced to chart the ideal career path and drive the student towards full optimization of their potentials and fulfillment of their dreams (either as an inventor or entrepreneur) with a key message of revving up the interest of students; parents, teachers and other key stakeholders towards STEM education and its application in Africa. 

InterswitchSPAK Objectives

    • To arouse and sustain keen interest in the study of STEM in high schools across Africa.
    • To raise the standard of STEM education and reward excellence with educational grants through an unbiased competition that would promote sound education in Africa.
    • To create a vehicle that is genuinely interested in the growth, development and well-being of Africa students and teachers through various interventions including scholarship schemes for outstanding STEM students.


    There are two main levels of the competition.


    In this stage, all the online registered students’ (i.e. the best SIX (6) from each registered school) will write a National qualifying test conducted by the Ministry of Education at designated centers across Kenya. Each school is to prepare their representatives for the qualifying test in four subjects- Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.


    The best 54 students (with the highest scores) out of those who wrote the qualifying test will be invited to participate at this stage of the competition, which includes the InterswitchSPAK Masterclass. This will be recorded and transmitted on Television across Kenya and Africa.


    This competition is open to students in Form 3 between 14 – 17 years; attending full time Secondary Education in both Public and Private Schools in Kenya. Participation in this competition is FREE.

    • Registration to participate is strictly online via or via
    •  Each School is required to present their BEST six (6) students in Science in form three (3) regardless of the Sex, religion, tribe or Region
    • Mixed-schools are required to have at least three female students-amongst the six (6) that would represent them
    • Every student will participate in the qualifying test at any of the test centres across Kenya 
    • The top 54 students will proceed to the competition to battle for the crown of Kenya’s best science student.


    • The InterswitchSPAK National test will hold on Saturday 16th May 2020 across Kenya.
    • Students must come to their designated test centres by 8am for accreditation with their Registration slip duly signed and stamped by their school principal.
    • Latecomers will not be allowed to write the test.
    • Students are to come along with only HB pencil, eraser, ruler and statistical table, NO CALCULATORS WILL BE ALLOWED. 
    • Students must conduct themselves in an orderly manner Any act of misconduct will lead to disqualification of the student.
    • All students MUST come to the test venue in their School Uniform.
    • The decision of the organizers/MOE is final and we shall not enter into any correspondence with anyone regarding the conduct of this test.


    1. First Prize

    Five (5) years University Scholarship worth -Ksh 1,500,000 + annual stipend (T&C) + Laptop + Signage for the school + Certificate of participation.

    2. Second Prize

    Three (3) years University Scholarship worth-Ksh 750,000 + annual stipend (T&C) + Laptop + Signage for the school + Certificate of participation.

    3. Third Prize

    One (1) year University Scholarship worth Ksh 150,000 + annual stipend (T&C) + Laptop + Signage for the school + Certificate of participation.
